« on: March 26, 2003, 07:44:54 pm »

Ditto.  Same error message when trying to connect to the server.

Did you download the missions update that has new versions of the patrol missions?

Duh.  Sorry, Tracey.  I just found the other thread.

By the way, the work you did on the scripts is great.  Thank you

But I just downloaded today.  The instruction sheet provided says "all updates are included in  the DOE_Convert 1 & 2 zips.

Herr Burt, you owe me.  Misleading instructions.  Sheesh...

J'inn, Could you come over here, please.  I could use your, specialty at lawyering here...

Sorry, you two.  I believed that DOEConvert2.zip *did* contain the recompiled missions and converter script.  I must have fubar'd the upload.  I've uploaded again so that any fresh players should have no trouble getting on the first time.

I'm glad you got on, and apologize for your moment of trouble.

Tracey,

I can try this evening. Is the link now buried in the forums?

Doh!!!!

I forgot that the ftp server changes the names of the files I upload by sticking an "A." in front of them.  So when uploaded the new Convert file, it didn't replace the old one.  People still downloaded the old one and people thus got the bad CRC message.

When I did this the second time, I DELETED the old one (That'll show it!) before uploading the new one.  Of course the ftp directory still changed the name, so people got the broken page.

Now it's fixed.

STEELCLAW:

The small download Tracey referred to (containing only the 6 recompiled missions, the SKE fixed shiplist, and the updated ToEagle script) is on the downloads page.  Just click on the link in any of my sigs.  We have assurances this one works, since several score people have been able to get on since I put the server back up.  If you've been on in the past, save yourself some time and download this one.

SC:

I got the same message last night. Then I realized that just because I had put the new missions in the right folder that didn't necessarily mean that the computer "knew" they were there.   Of course it would make since that the computer should know they were there since I had it put them there.  Therefore, since this would make since, I knew this had to be the problem because computers don't do "Making Sense".

Therefore,  after the downloading and file placing,  I hit "From DOE" to make my computer go back to pre-DOE and then "To DOE" to make it go to DOE with the new scripts.

And thus, by using J'inn's Law of Computer Errors (which states, Think like a complete imbecile and you'll figure out where the computer went wrong) the problem was fixed.

Of course this was all Herr Butthead's fault.  But that goes without saying.   Personally I think Herr Burt is Fluf a/k/a He Who Shall Be Blamed.

<waits for shock to set in that J'inn figured it out on his lonesome and the computer brains didn't  <snicker>>

Yeah, once I saw Tracey's message, I went, downloaded the fix-it patch, followed instructions (which included the bit about going "from DOE" then "to DOE"...), and lo, Julin now flies a SKL+ into action...

Apology about bum upload accepted.  You tried, at least...  J'inn, have a tall soft-drink on me, as your services aren't needed here this time... (and nice work figuring out that from - to DOE stuff on your own... )

While other people may have gotten this all sorted out, it still doesn't work for me.

I ran "From Eagle" to put the setup back to "normal."  I then deleted all of the converter files I had and went to download the supposedly fixed, new converter files.  I set them up in a NEW "DOE_Converter" folder.  I ran "To Eagle".  And, surprise surprise, I still can't log on.  It's giving me the exact same error as everybody reported in the first place here.

At this point I'm getting suspicious.  I emptied the browser cache and tried it again.  No luck.  I fiddled with a few things thinking maybe some kinda evil computer voodoo was happening.  Nope.  Asked for help on the other forum (SFC2.Net) yesterday while the Taldren board was down for maintenance.  No luck.

<sigh>

If you were downloading Convert2.zip and looking for help yesterday while the Taldren boards were down, then you were still downloading the old Convert2.zip.  I didn't catch the "ftp server renames things" glitch until later than that.

You should, however, be able now to download the (small) missions update and be all set.  No need to get the corrected Convert2.zip.  Jsut be sure you unconvert and reconvert afater extracting the 8 files from the missions patch (and let them overwrite the old files).

Also, when you extract Convert1.zip and Convert2.zip, be sure you are using the "Extract" option from winzip.  Don't drag and drop from the GUI.  The subdirectory structure doesn't get preserved if you do the drag and drop.  I don't think this is your problem, however, as if it were you'd be getting a lot more bad CRC checks that the short list SteelClaw gives above.

Since i like to do a clean install of something when i upgrade, having a fast connection i just downloaded the Two full zip files and uninstalled, and reinstalled the mod.  Of course, i came up with the error as well.  But, applying my best Romulan logic to the problem i figured that the download had been tested, but probably only the shiplist mod, so i downloaded that and ran it, and it worked wonderfully.  Obviously this has been sorted out already, but I just like seeing my name in lights....
