DOE Executive Decision: Wargames
« on: March 21, 2003, 03:04:24 am »
Greetings, best-beloved:

DOE is hard up against the deadline, and I haven't given any of you a chance to see the various shiplists, maps, etc.  Likewise, I'm sure you all remember the various problems that happen at the start of a campaign.

*Can you download the software, and do you know what to do with it once you have done so?
*Will there be spots on the map where you inevitably get an enemy for an ally, and thus can't conquer?
*Are any of the ships bugged?
*Do all your players have access to the needed forums?
*Do all your players have the requisite Roger Wilco and/or Teamspeak?
*What are going to be the main flame topics, and how can you get in a lot of posts without losing playing time?
*Where the $#@! are the VC's anyway, and what are the important spots on the map?

I've decided to solve all this the way they do in the real armed forces:  war games.

The DOE server should kick off sometime during the evening of Friday, March 21.  Most likely around 8 or 9 PM EST.  It will run for about 24 hours, and then it will reset on Saturday at 8PM.  Thereafter it will run uninterrupted (barring acts of God)   until completion.

I hope this will take care of all the last minute problems, and not cause too many people too much dissapointment.

In the meantime, thanks to the efforts of the lovely Dr. Nyet   (AKA G/F Christine)  the Day of the Eagle website is largely up.  Point your browser at http://www.fourpower.com/DOE_Frontpage.html and enjoy some graphics.  There are a lot of shots from the hubble used, so loading the pages may hiccup once in a while.

Happy Warmongering!

Bah! Rules are too short, only two thirds of a page. And the file installation is too easy.

Of course that's just an opinion.

Nice work Herr Burt. Well done. I've updated the Canpaign Schedule sticky thread with your girlfriend's website link.

AI using SFB fighters as standard loadouts - this is not going to be a server for the faint-hearted hehe. Player run escorts are going to be very popular hehe. Looks cool, Scippy

Any chance of getting the downloads sometime today? All I see is 4 Powers War in the download section. I'd like to try out some of these new toys in skirmish.

I deny that SPQR uses God to shut down a server. The Game Overwriting Data (GOD) chip has proven unreliable as it was as likely to shut the server while we were winning as when we were losing.

Herr Butt's server has been update free of charge with the Romulan Advanced Logic Enhancer (Romulan ALE for short). It is much more stable and will not interfere adversively. You can trust us.

Our computer service motto is: Security, discretion, data analysis.

Good to see the Romulans haven't lost their sense of humor.

As a person who might be a Romulan, I deny that said race posesses anything resembling a sense of humour.

We at the Tal'Shiar do not have a sense of humour that we are aware of.

You can trust Iadoka when he says that the Tal'Shiar has no sense of humor. His last practical joke attempt is still used as an exemple on how not to behave in a meeting. HE GREETED A FELLOW AGENT BY HIS REAL NAME!!!!!!

As of 18h55 EST, there is no other download than fourpower. Are you sure you did not reinstall the Game Overwriting Data chip?

Just to bring into question their existance, I note that both Gumby and Iaidoka spelled humour correctly despite both being listed as being in the USA (where they use American dialect instead of correct English).

This would definitely smell like a Romulan plot, if any Romulan plots existed.

After all, when the Gorn are through with them, they don't even need burial plots. There's not enough left to bury!
