Topic: How do I replace fighters? (Read 1567 times)

I want to replace my Romulan and Federation fighters with some custom models but realized they do not appear in the ShipEdit list.

Could someone provide a step-by-step "Dummies Guide" on how to do this?

There is a seperate fighter shiplist, edit there.
You can either replace stock fighters by renamaing the new model to the stock name. Or open the fighterlist and edit {assets/models/fft/fft.mod } to your new model ie [assets/models/newmod/newmod.mod]

Hey Kreeargh!

Do you mean that in the ShipEdit program itself, rthere is a separate fighter list? I know there is a list for the Federation, Klingon, Romulan, etc. and each has an icon with its symbol representing each empire.

If so, am i just not seeing it?

Oh, except PFs which should be in the main shiplist, that means Roms, Gorn and Lyrans are changed in the shiplist, Feds, Klinks, Hydrans, ISC and Kzin.. erm, Mirak are done in the fighterlist.

two ways to do it but before you do either make backups!

Way one:
edit the shiplist files for the for the PFs
edit the ftrlist for the fighters and shuttles.
Now things like WWs, SS, and SP shuttles will still use the defualt shuttle.

Way two:
Race F, R or Whatever ms = Shuttle defualt model
Race F, R or Whatever ft = PF/Fighter defualt model.

So replacing the files inside the directory will change the model and its textures.

So fms is the federation shuttle
so fft is the federation fighter
so rms is the romulan shuttle
so rft is the romulan PF
etc

You have to decide what works for you

Hmmm....okay: Pfs I change in their respective empire's list. The rest in the fighterlist. Got that part.

Where is the fighterlist? Is there an icon like the rest of 'em have (i.e. starfleet symbol for Feds, bird, for Roms, etc.)?

The ftrlist is in the same directory as the shiplist is.

the program works the same way.

I'm afraid I'm not getting you. Are you refering to the ShipEdit program or are you talking about going into the game files themselves directly?

Fighters I normally use the shipedit program to add different ones for the different types. Shuttles I tend to replace the defualt file with one I like then modify the ftrlist to replace the ones I launch as defence. I do this so I can quickly tell them appart while playing the game.

Okay, I think my brain has a handle on it.

Now I'll have to wait a couple of days to try it out (free time is scare right now). But at least I pretty much know what I'm doing now...

here in detail what you need to know: when ship edit in open click on the file icon on the ship edit, there you go look in your sfc file call assets there you open the specs file, there you have 2 text files, the frtlist = fighter list, the shiplist = well the ship list , the romulan, gorn lyran and the pirate tygerheart use interceptor and only 1 type (a little biger that fighter) and there in the shiplist not in the fighter list.

Now that I know what to do, I have another question:

What is THE MAXIMUM number of fighters a single ship can have? I know its different for ships that are allowed fighter and carrieres of course carry the most, but is there a way to make them carry a LOT MORE fighters?

The largest number per group in shipedit is 6 per group with a maximum of 4 groups. I really don't know what the game will allow past that. I think it might be more of a machine issue though as 24 high poly fighters can really lag a game down.
