In the Flesh?
« on: March 14, 2003, 08:33:43 am »
So ya,
Thought ya,
Might like to go to the show,
To feel the warm thrill of a warp engine,
That neon blue glow,
Tell me is something eluding you sunshine?
Is that asteroid not what you expected to see?
If you'd like to find out what's behind those cold rocks,
You'll just have to claw your way through that cloaking device

So ya,
Thought ya,
Might like to go to play on DOE,
To feel the warm thrill of an escape pod,
That plasma-R glow,
I've got some bad news for you sunshine,
Cleopatra isn't well, she stayed back in the hotel,
And they sent us along as a surrogate band,
And we're gonna find out where you SOS really stand,

Are there any Gorns in the theatre tonight,
Get em up against the rocks... <get... them... up>
There's one in a tractor beam, he don't look right to me,
Get him up against the wall, <get... him... up>
That one looks drunk,
And that one's wearing a pink tutu,
Who let all this riff raff onto the server,
There's one smoking a joint,
Another with PF's!
If the SOS had their way,
They'd have all of you shot!

(from Pink Floyd - The Wall, just in case you didn't know)

J'inn has flown across the asteroid field,
Leaving just a memory,
A snapshot in the saved screenshots folder,
J'inn what else did you leave for us,
J'inn what d'ya leave behind for us,
All in all its just another dead KAT in the wall,
All in all they're all just, dead KATS in the wall,

We don't need no cloaking devices,
We don't need no drone control,
No battle carriers in the shipyard,
Klinks leave the KATS alone,
Hey methane breathers leave the KATS alone,
All in all, its just another daed KAT in the wall,
All in all, you;re all just dead KATS in the wall

I don't need no shields around me,
I don't need no marines to calm me,
I have seen the writing in the forums,
Don't think I need anything at all,
No, don't think I need any ship at all,
All in all, it was just dead KATS in the wall,
All in all, you were all just dead KATS in the wall

I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of this picture of J'inn taken during a debriefing after his infamous AOTK Asteroid collision(s).

Oooooooooooh babe
Don't leave me now,
Don't say it's the end of the mission,
Remember the photon torpedoes I sent,
I need you babe,
To put you through a t-bomb shower,
In front of my fleet mates,
Oooooooooooh babe, don't leave me now,
How could you go?
When you know you still have some hull left,
To beat you to a pulp on a Saturday night,
Oooooooooooh babe,
Don't leave me now,
How can you treat me this way,
Running away,
I need you babe,
Why are you crossing the map border?
Ooooooooooooh babe......

Run... run... run...
Run... run... run...
You better make your ship up in your favorite disguise
With your ECM shift up real high and your roller blind eyes,
With your empty fighter bay and your blackened hull sides,
Feel the bile rising as your tortured ship flies,
With your nerves in tatters,
As the warp engine shatters,
And the disruptors batter down your shields,
You better run like hell,

You better run all day and run all night,
And keep your phaser fire deep inside,
And if you take your PF's out tonight,
You better park your ship well out of sight,
Cos if they catch you in the backseat trying to shoot your plasma-F's,
They're gonna send you back to your RM in a cardboard box,
You better run

As a matter of fact, there's no dark side of the moon really, it's all dark.

They were all from Pink Floyd - The Wall.

Barry Manilow? who's he? <gets out out tome of ancient history of music>

<thinks better of typing the words to *that* song (Tracey, you know which one, so please don't hurt me!!!)>

Actually, the first symptom of campaign withdrawl is the sudden outburst of posts of epic length that start harmlessly but end in all sorts of sexual innuendo.... not that there's anything wrong with this

You let me violate your space,
You let me desecrate your starbase,
You let me penetrate your shields,
You let me complicate your warp field,
<Help me> I broke apart my scatterpacks,
I've got no comms button to tell,
<Help me> The only thing that works for me,
Help me get away from myself,

I wanna <deleted> you like a Klingon,
I wanna scan you from the inside,
I wanna <deleted> you like a Kzinti,
My whole ordinance is lost,
You get me closer to making Fleet Admiral!

You can't help my firing solution,
You can't help the hit and runs that it brings,
You can't have my absence of ship damage,
You can't have my G-Racks,
<Help me> Tear down my t-bomb supplies,
Is that your drone loadout I can smell,
<Help me> You make me maneuver eratically,
Help me fire at somebody else,

I wanna <deleted> you like a Lyran,
I wanna see your hull from the inside,
I wanna <deleted> you like a Gorn,
My whole ECM interference is lost,
You get my G-Racks closer to running hot

Got them on bookmark too!

That is...

Tracey,

You are obviously into Pink Floyd. Can you name this one? (it's obscure, even for Pink Floyd)

It was bump all around
There was frost in the ground
(edited for content)
And no one survived
From the Royal Fusiliers Company C
They were all left behind
Most of them bump
The rest of them bumping
And that's how the High command took my Bumpy from me.

Well Goose, let's see if you know this one...

I was standing by the nile,
When I saw a lady smile,
I would take out for awhile... for.. a... while...

<???> like a child,
How her golden hair was flowing wild,
Then she spread her wings to fly, oh.. to... fly...

Soaring high upon the breezes,
Going always where she pleases,
She will make it to the island in the sky....

I will follow in her shadow,
As I watch her from my window,
One day I will catch her eye,

She is calling from the deep,
Suffering my soul to endless sleep,
She is bound to drage me down... drag down...

(I may have one or two words wrong)

Ok Tracey,

here is some Aussie style rock for you....

She flew a fast machine
She kept her warp core clean
She was the best damn Feddie I had ever seen
She had the angel eyes
Telling me no lies
Knockin' me out with those Aussie thighs
Sporting more than her share
The G-racks were there
She told me the hex but I was already there

'Cause the drones start shaking
The earth was quaking
My thist getting slakened
And we were making it and you -

CHORUS:
Shook me all night long
Yeah you shook me all night long

Working double time
On the ?thin blue line?
She was one of a kind, she's just fine all mine
She wanted no cheese ship
Just a share of my ?nip
Made a pass at me and came back for more
Had to cool me down
Cause her front shield?s down
Now my eyes popping out to take another peek

'Cause the drones start shaking
The earth was quaking
My thist getting slakened
And we were making it and you

CHORUS

And wore me out and then you
Shook me all night long
You had me droolin' and you
Shook me all night long
Yeah you shook me
Well you took me

You really took me and you
Shook me all night long
Ooooh you

Actually, you magnificient sheila, the only words are "One of these days I'm gonna cut you into little pieces."  But that's neither here nor there.

  Does anyone know who sang.....

There's something solid forming in the air

    And the wall of death,
    is lowered on Times Square.

     Noone seems to care,
They carry on as if nothing is there.

The wind is blowing harder now,
   Blowing dust into my eyes.
The dust, settles on my skin,
Making a crust I cannot move in.

And I'm hovering like a fly,
Waiting for the windshield on the freeway.

  Hints: 70's rock band
            Album came out around 1971-72

Name the song, album and singer and I'll send you a dragon figurine.  It's plastic, but what the hell, it's free.

And all this time I thought you had no class or taste.  Who knew?

  How bout this one......

"Vodka intimate, an affair with isolation in a blackheath cell.
Extinguishing the fires in a private hell,
Provoking the heartache to renew the license.
Of a bleeding heart poet in a fragile capsule,
Propping up the crust of a glitter conscience.
Wrapped in the christening shard of a hangover,
Baptized in tears from the real, tears from the real."

Yes I used to DJ at my college Radio Station, so I know quite a few unusal tunes, as we were not allowed to play top 40.

Now I know the answer to your next question as well but I will leave it for another, but just to assure you I know...

Drowning in the liquid seize on the Piccadilly line, rat race
Scuttling through the damp electric labyrinth
Caress Ophelia's hand with breathstroke ambition
An albatross in the marrytime tradition
Sheathed within the Walkman wear the halo of distortion
Aural contraceptive aborting pregnant conversation
She turned the harpoon and it pierced my heart
She hung herself around my neck

had to listen to that one agin to remember the lyrics...lol its been a long time, thanks for the incentive.

and why non-brits?
they are an American band from the DC area?

BTW Gwarlock ever see a band from their called "Mission D.C." in the early 80's
good music and fun guys to party with.  I think they might have originated in your area, but played alot down here.

(Stands up for a round of applause)

The lady knows her Floyd.

Actually it was cut, along with 1 or 2 others, because the album was too long (one of the unfortunate restrictions of vinyl). Another song (Empty Spaces) was shortened. Alan Parker put Tigers back in for the Movie and used the longer version of Spaces.

To be quite honest I'm not big on Pre-Dark side of the Moon, and Syd Barrett. The only thing I listen to from then is Meddle. Not sure when Animals was released though. So you got me with the next lyric you asked for.

Some more questions:

Have you ever played The Wall backwards?

Did you know Wish You Were Here was responsible for David Gilmour giving up smoking?

Or that When the Tigers Broke Free was based on Roger Waters real father?

How many weeks did Dark Side of the Moon spend in the Billboard Top 100?

Not quite sure of the EXACT number, but I think its around 543 weeks on the top 100.  Probably more.  And for Tracey, since she mentioned Barry Manilow.........

    Her name was Tracey,
    She was an admin.
And while her sig pic made you stare
(cuz' her top's cut down to there)
    She would play Klingon,
    But mostly Feddie
And while she's quick with an excuse
    When Gwarlock's on the loose
        She tried to saber dance
        And almost lost her pants
        She knows the truth behind
        All of Gwarlock's rants
   On the server
   SFC server
The hottest spot on all the Dyna
   On the server
   SFC ser-ver
   Loose all your scatters
   Cuz what really matters,
   On the  server,
   I have your bra.

     His name was Doggy,
     He just played Klingon.
     He'a arguably the best,
But just not up to the test.
  So he and Tracey,
  They called me over.
    Both lookin' to lock horns
    By pickin on a Gorn.
       And then the scatters flew,
       PF's were smashed in two.
       Then the mission CTD'd
       And just who beat who?
   On the server,
   SFC server.
The hottest spot on all the Dyna.
   On the server
   SFC ser-ver
      Scatters and crashin'
      are always in fashion
      On the ser-ver
       Still have your bra.

Plazmarized

Ive been waiting 40 miniutes just for one shot ( YAHHH)
And all you can do is say you never saw it comming
You find yourself plazmarized, and Im comming around agin
All I want is your tiny little innocent hull ablaze
And when you feel like your safe
You find your self Plazmarized, and Im comming back agin.

Why do you like playing around with infereior views
Your narrow scope of the map allows me to slip around
You think your breaking away, Im just breaking you in

See you dont get it
You think you can run and start your run agin
You think you can take control of it
You get Plazmarized

Dont Deny me
Oh babby dont deny me
And Darling dont be afraid

Look in my Plasma torps, stare into my R torp
As I begin to Plazmarize you

Old Genesis, not sure what album though, the earlier Genesis question brought back the memory.  Late 1960's or early 1970's I believe.

were from the 1968 album, "More", the song was called "The Nile Song"..
No winners unforunately (how could anyone not know that one? It's only... 35 years old!! LOL!!)

Chuut,  it was an EARLY (and I mean early) Genesis bootleg I found at a yardsale.  IT's called From Genesis to Revelation.  Turning Japanese?  The Vapors happened to be an excellent band that had a hit then vanished all to fast.  Fruit flies last longer.  Here's an off the wall one for ya Chuut:

  There were some scientists
sitting round thinkin bout the sasquatch riddle.
When they figured out he was the missing link.

  In search of sasquatch,
That was a kickass 'In Search Of'
With Leonard Nimoy kickin out the jams.

Hmmm, no one want to attempt the Dark Side of the Moon. OK I'll just spill it then.

I was at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame about two years ago, just after Pink Floyd was inducted. There was an exhibit dedicated to them, that covered most of the floor at the time. It was displaying old stage props, including Inflatable pigs and the Headmaster from the Wall. There also a history of the group with various pictures.

But most prominently was the display that outlined their accomplishment for Most Consecutive weeks on the Billboard 100 by a single album.

Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon - 754 weeks. Yes, thats right almost 15 consectutive years in the charts.

It is still there today hovering around 90-95. Unfortunately it dropped off breifly about 5 years ago interupting the consecutive run. So it started a new run.

Not bad considering they weren't "mainstream" at the time.

In a Pink Floyd vein, there is a band who did the entire Dark Side album as reggae covers.  Before you laugh, it's actually quite good.  It's called 'Dub side of the moon' and it comes complete with bong noises.  Just thought I'd put it out there.

Yes, Kroma, I still have the dragon.  But from me to thee, answer these riddles three:

    1) What is the only Beatles song the Beatles didn't perform in the studio?

    2) Who wrote the lyrics "Power was to become cheap and clean, grimy faces were never seen.  Deadly for 10,000 years is carbon 14"

    3) What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

Ok, here is a Chuut-Ritt special

CHUUT-RITT BABY

Yo, KAT, Let's kick it!

Chuut-Ritt Baby
Chuut-Ritt Baby
All right stop
Collaborate and listen
Chuut is back with my brand new intention
My tractor grabs a hold of you tightly
I?m Shooting drones like harpoons daily and nightly
Will it ever stop?
No?till your ship blows
Turn off the lights and it glows
To the extreme I?m more than you can handle
Light up the Dyna and wax your ship like a candle.

Dance
Bum rush the scatterpack doom
I'm owning your space making it my room
Deadly, when I play a saber-dance melody
If your anything less that the best is a felony
Love it or leave it
You better give way
Cause I?ll hit your bullseye
If you decide to stay
If there was a hex
Yo, I'll flip it
Check out the map while my Kzin all ?nip it

Chuut-Ritt Baby (x4)

Now that the Dyna is jumping
With the KOTH kicked in, and the KATs are pumpin'
Quick to the point, to the point no faking
I'm cooking enemies like a pound of bacon
Grabbing them if they're not quick and nimble
Half crazy and a Dyna sex symbol
In a pimp hat with a ship that I like
I'm on a roll and it's time to Deepstrike
Rollin in my MDC
Got their homeworld flipped before they even notice me
The opposition must be high
Just watching as I fly by
Did you stop?
No--I just flew by
Kept on pursuing to the next place
I busted a left and I'm heading to the next base
That base was dead

Yo--so I continued to Hex 1,1 top left for the view.
Ememies were hot swearing as I drank Martinis
Moving fast in my Kzinti Lamborghini
Zealous 'cause I'm out to win
Crazy with a laugh and Chuut with a grin
Reading for the chumps on the wall
The Chumps are acting dazed because they're so enthralled
A dragnet ranged out like a bell
I looked at the map--
All I saw were cheesefleets
Closing on my hex real fast
Jumped in my light, slipped my way past
Side by side the map was packed
I'm tryin to get away before the gangbang attack
Dreadnaughts on the scene
I said what the hell
They passed me up, only saw my warp trail
If there was a hex
Yo, I'll flip it
Check out the map while my Kzin all ?nip it

Chuut-Ritt Baby (x4)

Take heed, 'cause I'm a lyrical poet
M?raa?s the only scene just in case you didn't know it
My place , that created all the Kzin race
That fly in and quickly take your home space
'Cause my style gives observers a thrill
Strategy that you can vision and feel
Executed in force
This is a hell of a concept
We make it happen and you want to step with this
Cyan speads on the field, slice it like a phaser 4
Explodes like a Mark IV yield so fast
Other races say, "Damn"
If my rhyme was the ?Nip
I'd have to get a bigger ship
Keep my composure when it's time to get busy
Magnetized by my form as I dance my dizzies
If there was a hex
Yo, I'll flip it
Check out the map while my Kzin all ?nip it

Chuut-Ritt Baby (x4)

Yo man--let's get out of here!
Word to your homeworld!

Chuut-Ritt baby    Too Bold
Chuut-Ritt baby    Too Bold Too Bold (3X).........................

Kroma, once again, a day late and a tutu short.  The answer to #2 was Sting - We Work The Black Seam.  Noone guessed the answer to question #1.  HAHAHAHA!  Chuut, your damned internet searches are becoming confusing.  It was Tenacious D, the best band that ever lived.  As for the answer to question 3 - You have to know these sort of things when you're king.

And to my favorite Aussie wench - don't F with me on trivia.  Specific knowledge is grand, but to be a master of none and a knower of all takes WAAAAY more time.  I STILL have your panties.

"Horror of the Fire" (alt. on God Help Us)
"Man Makes the Clothes"
"Pruf"

all fit the bill,  there may be others as well G'Warlock, you are slipping....

I read a lot of sports, history and music. But I am not restricted to them.

Care to try a few questions.

Start with this one (you too Tracey)

Name the group in the Rock and Roll hall of fame that was originally known as "The New Yardbirds", but changed their name when the drummer of another HOF group made a derogatory comment about them.

Correct!

The legendary Keith Moon of The Who made the comment,

"They'll go over like a lead zeppelin."

The named was changed partly to spite him, partly 'cuz they liked it better.

Next question,

There are two artists that have been inducted twice into the Hall of Fame.

Who are they?

Hint: One is obvious, the other, not-so-obvious.

OK, the answer to the question (one of them).  The only Beatles song the Beatles did not perform in the studio was "Eleanor Rigby".  The accompaniment was all violins, with no bass, guitar, or drums.  The Beatles didn't play violins, let alone an orchestra section, so hence, they didn't play.  I admit the others had me stumped.  See y'all on DOE!

Breathe, breathe in the recycled air.
Don't be afraid to stare,
Leave the map, but don't leave the server,
Look around and choose your own clown (to pvp),
For short you live and low you fly,
And drones you'll give and plasma you'll cry,
And all you touch and all you see,
Is all your ship will ever be,

Run, feddie, run,
Dig that black hole, forget the sun,
And when at last the mission is over,
Don't sit down it's time to fly another one,
For short you live and low you fly,
But only if you stay alive,
And balanced on the biggest PPD wave,
You race towards an early grave

Hey you! Out there in the cold
Getting tired, getting old, can you hit me?
Hey you, sitting in your chair
with itchy z finger and fading smile, can you probe me
Hey you! don't help them to bury the light
Don't give in without a fight

Hey you, out there on your own
sitting cold by the modem
would you hit me?

Hey you! with yours ears against the headphones
Waiting for someone to chat
would you hit me
Hey you! would you help me to tractor the stone
Open your shuttlebay, I'm coming home

But it was only SFC
The tractor was to high, as you could see
No matter how you tried you could not break free
and the rocks slammed into your brain

Hey you! out there on your own
Doing what your RM told, can you help me
Hey you! out there beyond my scan
blasting A.I.s near the hole can you help me
Hey you! don't tell me there's no hope at all
Together we play, divided we fall

Thanks Tracey. Here's a quick one.

I am just a space cadet
a stranger to this base
where are all the good times
whose gonna show this ranger around
Ooooooooh I need an Orion slave girl
Ooooooooh I need an Orion babe

Will some green woman on this space station
make me feel like a real male
take this SFC refugee
Ooooh babe set me free
Ooooooooh I need an Orion slave girl
Ooooooooh I need an Orion babe

Let's get this thread rolling again... ;)

Another quickie for ya all...

Goodbye cruel cruiser, I'm leaving you today.
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye...

Goodbye all you crewmen, there's nothing I can say,
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye.

And guess the inspiration behind this one...

When a disruptor fires, it murders some part of the crew.
These are the pale deaths, which Klingons miscall their cruise.
All this I cannot bear to tolerate any longer.
Cannot the Black Fleet come, take me home?

It could be a politica hot potato, but who wants to write the words for

"Another bug in the code" parts 1,2 and 3 of course.

All in all, it's just another bug in the code...... :o

Mama loves her newbie,
And Kroma loves you too,
And the bridge may look comfortable to you newbie,
And your quarters may look cozy,
But ooooooh newbie,
Ohhhhh newbie,

If you should go playing,
On the D2 of modern life,
Dragging behind you the pretty trails,
Of a million incoming drones,
Don't be surprised when a crack in your hull,
Appears under your feet,
You slip out of your captain's chair and out of your space suit,
With your warp plasma flowing out behind you,
As you claw the thin vacuum

Prestige (Money)

Prestige, come my way!
Get the win, repair and fight another day
Prestige, from the heat.
Bid high on the shipyard and make a fleet.
Dreadnaughts, Warcruisers, Deepstrike fast ships
Upgrade refits to score morre hits.

... anyone else wanna try the next verse?

Prestige, get away,
Get a good ship with more weapons and you're OK,
Prestige, its plasma gas,
Grab those mission wins with both tractors and make the hex flip,
New fast cruiser, fast drones, four G2 type red star spacedream,
Think I'll buy me an admin team

And for the other song titiled "Money"...

The best things in life are free,
but you can give them to the Klings and Kzinti

I nee-eed prestige (That's what I want)
That's what I want (That's what I want)
That's what I wa-a-a-a-a-ant
That's what I want!

Tracey your sig pics are the pips,
But your pics don't buy me my new ships

I nee-eed prestige (That's what I want)
That's what I want (That's what I want)
That's what I wa-a-a-a-a-ant
That's what I want!

You know there's lots of things to cure your ills
but only one thing I get from kills

And that prestige (That's what I want)
That's what I want (That's what I want)
That's what I wa-a-a-a-a-ant
That's what I want!

actually the Kzin and Klinks pay for their "things"  the plasma users would be more appropriate  ;)

Hoi Folks,

All this verse, so lovely to read.
 Outpouring of true emotion,
About this gaming life we lead.
 Geeks demonstrating devotion,
 Is a strange sight indeed!

It takes more than gory graphics
 To make a community last.
 Discussion, and sharing tactics
Make playing this game a real blast.
 Yes, the soul's schematics!

 We work for playability,
All bringing ideas, and some skills.
Shared passion has us work for free.
 Though it does not pay the bills;
 It helps our sanity!

Well I could go on and on. Sorry, I left the theme of the thread, but I was inspired to whip up a new poem. Hope you like it!

Take care
