*Possible* way to prevent Win 10 auto updates.

I saw a comment lately about a guy who cloned his Win 10 to a USB HD.  I am assuming that he booted from it while on USB, as apparently it marked the Win 10 install as being a portable install and it no longer did auto updates when he put it into the machine (or maybe when he restored from it.  Can't confirm this as I don't have Win 10 to play with.  I also assume that if you moved your internal HD to a USB connection booted a time or two then reinstalled the drive that it would do the same.  Can anyone confirm this as it might be useful to some
