SFC-OP
« on: March 08, 2015, 09:13:00 am »
I recently got a good download of SFC-OP.  the first install went well but the 2552 patch was corrupted.  got a certified authentic patch, reinstalled the game and while gameplay, music and cinematics are all working right but there is no voice overs.  no instructions, no taunts, nothing.  the voice files are present but I still don't know what is going on.

I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit and running the game as administrator with the Windows XP service pack 3 option.

any tips?

Search for your sfc.ini file in the root directory of OP (or maybe in %appdata%). Make sure it isn't set to read-only.

[Sound]
voice=3
GlobalVolume=50
MusicVolume=50
VoiceVolume=50
MaxChannels=16
CollisionAlert=0

In game:
Hotkeys->Options->Crew Sounds->maximum

Of course, you may have already done this.

I'd try running OP without XP compatibility mode, and not as administrator. They are not neccessary, in my experience, on an up-to-date Windows-7 64-bit OS.

first...I have no SFC.INI file in any SFC-OP folder.

I did find a file called SFC that had sound options and changed the values to those you posted.  the effects and music was good but no voice or taunts.

going to reinstall and see what happens.

let you know the results.

that was it, that "SFC" probably showed up in details as a "Configuration settings" type. Right-click and "properties" on SFC will reveal the suffix type ".ini" and where to set/remove "read-only"

I re-installed the game and this is wat I found.

There are 2 files,
"SFC" is a text file and I unchecked the read-only option.

"sfc" is a configuration file that had the read-only option unchecked.  I adjusted all sounds to 50 and the channels I left at 16.

I get crew sounds but I get no taunts or the vocals for the training missions.

I ran the 2552 patch and still get no vocals.

Good.

A player must target an enemy vessel and press Shift + F1, Shift + F2, etc. to send a taunt. (You probably know this already.)

If you haven't done so already, open your Starfleet/assets/sound folder and then open the "SFCVoice" archive. Try to play the 1FTNT01_a.wav file with Windows Media Player. If that Federation taunt works, we know the problem is not caused by corrupt audio assets.

actually I didn't know that... :crazy2:

all the crew voices, music and such work.  the tutorials' vocals are gone.
 on my first install they all worked.  then I installed a bad version of the 2552 patch and nothing worked.  uninstalled, reinstalled and the game plays fine but in the tutorials there are no instructors vocals.

It is possible that the 2.552 patch might unintentionally remove the voices from the tutorials. I can't hear the instructor in any of my tutorials...

I guess you could play 2.500 for the tutorials, then patch to 2.552 thereafter, since you probably won't replay them anyway.
