Is there still any active online-play community?
« on: March 28, 2014, 08:50:51 pm »
I used to play on Gamespy ages ago, but now I see it's gone.
I was wondering if there's still anyplace online where people still gather for multiplayer SFC1 SFC2 or SFC:OP? Or has mutliplayer SFC died out?

I am trying to get EAW2 Dynaverse working on my network then will open it up on request.
I can't run CE yet and haven't tried to run OP.  I can let you know when I have it working.
I have some of the issues worked out via OpenSpy which is a Gamespy replacement.  I have the CD key check
working now and am trying to get the game lobby working. This is all backed by MySQL and I am hoping
I can connect to my D2 soon.  Once I know it is stable, I can let people know to try to login but
configuring users at this stage is a manual process and only works with my setup for now.

Unless dynaverse has radically changed since I played, I don't consider it to be multiplayer. Fighting AI gets very predicable and abusable and boring after a while.

I was wondering if there was still anywhere people gathered for PvP battles.

Alsee, what you said got me thinking about my own PvP habits - I get on GameRanger to play, but most of the time as part of long-running (I mean 28 years long) quasi-campaign with my old SFB playgroup, and since we use a unique shiplist, we tend to ignore other players (no offense meant). What if there was a thread here on dynaverse to announce "events" or to line up scheduled gaming times? Something like, "Thursday, Feb 29, 1900 EST, be there"? Would anyone else be interested? Otherwise, you can always just hang out on gameRanger til another player shows up...

I would be interested.  I have an NBN connection here in Australia with a very low latency now.
If can get the server up. I will try that too!

Going off on a bit of a tangent but as it might be a way of getting in quick contact with other players... and, even though, based on this thread - http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163392595.0.html - some people here will scoff at this idea... How about a Facebook group?

There's currently a Dynaverse.net FB page https://www.facebook.com/pages/DynaverseNet/153228018072175?ref=stream but it's not a "group" where we can see each other, etc. Anybody else want this?
