How can I limit the game year / remove x technologies?
« on: March 19, 2014, 05:11:53 am »
Hi everyone,

Just wondering if someone knows if there is a way to limit the year in the single player campaign e.g. set a cap at 2275 or whatever. I'd like to play a long campaign with one race but things get very unbalanced when x-ships come in. They are too overpowered. I like the new x weapons, except x phasers, and wish the designers had just added x weapons and a little more power to the stock ships than brought in the x-class ships. So, I'd like to stop the game just before x tech comes in. Any ideas?

If there's no way to do that, is there any patch that outright removes x-ships or tech? Thanks a lot.

Editing the game to remove the X technology ships is a tedious task, but there is an option that you can do to make the game last longer without going through that trouble.

In \MetaAssets\Serverprofile\Singleplayer folder there is a file called time.gf  It is editible in a text editor, if you change the number of turns per year to something high... you will spend more time in each given year.

I've not noticed any side effects from making that one change (except that I always seem to destroy the Romulan Star Empire by 2265, just to keep them from getting their nastier KRs and new series ships)

You will still eventually get to the X era, but you will have spent a lot more time in earlier eras.

Great, that's just what I needed. Thanks a lot. I'll set it to 99999 turns a year and report any odd behavior if I get any.

Well, I hope you like the ship you are flying (and never get blown up) because if the years hardly pass the shipyards will hardly update as well. Slowing things down is an option, but a simple way to get rid of the X-Ships is to place an "R" in the Special Role section of the shiplist for each X-Ship (open the shiplist with a spread sheet editor like MS Excel to do this, replacing any other letter in the slot, if any, and back up the file before making any changes). If you are using the stock shiplist there are only a handful of X1 and X2 ships to edit. If you are using OP+, then there will be more. This will make it so they never appear anywhere in the campaign for you.
