What is the key to enable "green alert"?
« on: March 22, 2014, 01:00:13 am »
The Promises to Keep mission in the ISC campaign requires you to go to Green Alert if you want a diplomatic solution.  I have searched the hotkeys till I'm blue in the face and cannot find it.  SFCIII had it in the most annoying spot.  Kept dropping shields.  Any help would be appreciated.

There's no "hotkey" for Green alert, altho you can set one in the menu. Personally, since there are only so many keys available, and I'd rreeaallllyy hate to hit that one while facing a B10, I just use the green alert status button in the bottom right hand corner.

You do realize that Condition Green requires shields to be lowered and weapons to be powered down?  If you try to re-raise the shields, you will immediately go back to at least Yellow Alert.  If I remember the settings correctly, the only combat system that still functions (and by function I mean cycle) is ADDs, Plasma Ds, and Drone Racks.  Phasers can be charged at Yellow Alert.  Note that none of these systems will actually discharge at condition green or yellow, they will simply cycle/charge.  You need active fire control, which is only at Condition Red, in order to actually discharge those weapons.  Any time a heavy weapon hard point is brought online, your ship is automatically set to Condition Red.

well, no duh, but SOFBear is asking about the "Promises to Keep" scenario. I don't know it but it sounds like that requires being at Green.

Yes, condition green is the requirement for the diplomatic solution.  But he mentioned that it keeps dropping his shields, its supposed to drop the shields.  And if he tries to re-raise them, it will take him back to condition yellow.

No, what he said was that SFC3 had a hotkey for condition green, that was poorly placed, and that he kept hitting it by accident and going to green during battles.  Probably equivalent to all of the times I've accidentally weaseled during 3 on 3 matches, coming to a complete stop when surrounded by 3 angry plasma chuckers.

Sorry I hadn't a chance to check the forums till now.  I think I could have done a better job on asking the question.  I had come off playing SFCIII and there was a hot key for condition green and it was in THE worst spot.  I can't tell how many times I lowered shields and powered down weapons and was blown to bits as a result.  I went in and finally reset the key to something like the F12 key so I wouldn't bump it.  But that got me thinking there must be a hard key for it in SFC that I could at least rewire and there wasn't.  In trying to complete that mission diplomatically you had to go to green alert and I kept trying to do it manually by powering off the shield and powering down the weapons but that would not bring up the diplomatic solution in the Promises to Keep mission so I ended up re raising shields and weapons and of course THAT didn't get the desired diplomatic solution.  I kind of gave up and blasted everything to smithereens but I'm thinking I missed out on a medal or something that will result in my getting "Well it was a disappointing career at StarFleet.  A good officer but nothing great" kind of ending like the first time I played SFCI.  So am I missing something on the side panel?  I looked there too and didn't see a condition green either.

As TAnimal pointed out, there's an alert indicator on the bottom right hand corner of the screen.  Hit the green stripe to go to green.

Oh yoy,  I should have seen that right off the bat.  This game blends alot of key functions with a huge bit of visually displayed data.  I have seen that darned screen a hundred times yet it never registered in my brain.  :knuppel2:  Thank you.
