“Content Distribution Regulation by Viewing User,” MS Patent

Quote
The patent application, filed under the heading “Content Distribution Regulation by Viewing User,” proposes to use cameras and sensors like those in the Xbox 360 Kinect controller to monitor, count and in some cases identify the people in a room watching television, movies and other content. The filing refers to the technology as a “consumer detector.”

In one scenario, the system would then charge for the television show or movie based on the number of viewers in the room. Or, if the number of viewers exceeds the limits laid out by a particular content license, the system would halt playback unless additional viewing rights were purchased.

The system could also take into account the age of viewers, limiting playback of mature content to adults, for example. This patent application doesn’t explain how that would work, but a separate Microsoft patent application last year described a system for using sensors to estimate age based on the proportions of their body.

I don't see what the problem is.  Its not like Major League Baseball isn't already using your cellphones to spy on you.

Cash only is a rule Ive lived by for years. My bank is only used to make change. Such as picking up a bunch of $1's. Also, I have a cellphone, but its not in my name and I keep it turned off 99.99% of the time. By "turned off", I mean battery disconnected. Some of you should really look into setting up a barter/trade group in your area. Works great if your smart and absolutely no sales taxes or...any other taxes for that matter. Ive been going to alot of auctions lately. Amazing what you can find and use for trade.

Well, the Girl Scouts are creating a dossier of your snack preferences every time you buy a box of cookies.

They don't try to sell them to me ever since I asked "Are they made with real Girl Scouts?".  So no dossier there.

This world sometimes creeps me out. Remember the movie Minority Report. When you walk in the store, it scans your retinas and displays a personal ad just for you as you walking by. Now that's really creepy but eventually I can see it happening.

Well, I can't believe you live in Queens without occasionally taking the bus or subway, which means you're giving the city the ability to track you using the metro card system.

Oh well, the UN can always use that tracker in your flu shot.

Flu shot?

I have a card for inter city transit.  But if you don't register it they can't connect it to you (or replace it if you lose it).  Mine isn't registered.

Don't you know?  Every time you get a flu shot, you're implanted with a tiny subdermal tracker. ;)

Well, we have metrocards, and while there is nothing to attach the card to me either, outside of taking it off my person.  I'm sure that they could use security camera footage to match me up to the card if they wanted to.
