I remember several years back when Taldrens auto update still worked, that i recived a patch that changed the standard phaser graphics from a solid beam to the phasers seen in Startrek II WOK. I figured that it was apart of a normal update, but alas it is not. i just re-installed EAW and OP, both are fully updated.

Does anyone know what im talking about, or know were i can find this file?

I believe I know what you're talking about, don't think it was a patch but a texture mod, probably have it sitting in front of me right now, sadly though have forgotten all about which texture files relate to what weapons so am unable to recognize it.

you may be right, its been so long ago i cant for the life of me remember were i got it... I sure do wish i had it tho. It makes such a HUGE differance in gameplay IMO.

IIRC....there was a modified FX0 file, therein lies the phaser textures.

I remember that one...doubt I still have but can check.

You'll need to convert it to .bmp and make a back up of your original fx0.bmp before using it.

Not sure if that specifically is the mod but it goes in the correct direction.

For those who've forgotten, or never knew, the white rectangular boxes (solid rectangle by default) are the phaser illumination maps. By breaking the default map into segments divided by black the phaser fire appears as multiple "shots" rather than a single beam. Couple it with a new sound file, either the amd file or a custom one from WoK, and your brain should tell you you're firing several tiny bursts.

My question is can phaser fire color be changed? I don't like the purple PhG beams.
