I saw that, but then found more recent news that they aren't pyramids. I wonder if they are sinkholes.

I haven't read anything definitive on the subject to confirm or refute it.  Its probably wishful thinking since we're talking about full sized pyramids, and not some lost tomb hidden in a cliff somewhere, but I'd like to keep an open mind until someone takes a closer look.
