I'm glad that you don't agree with the link you posted (though it begs the question "why then"), but the "Know The Lies" site is not a parody. That's a serious website that makes false claims about vaccines, flouridation, global domination by the UN, dictatorship arising in the US, 9/11, ... the list goes on.

That site is real, and really scary that people buy into that.

UPDATE... Even though this article is indicated as being a SATIRE, many reading it are becoming upset!?! This article is so well written it is almost believable. I don't believe the world is flat, so why would I post a link to a website that says it is?

Look at it this way:
Person A posts that "Macs are no good, PC are better"
Person B replies "I like Mac better"
This is a subject that can be debated in a thread.

Person A posts "PCs rule"
Person B posts a link to a site that links computers to the pending 2012 apocalypse and advocates spreading chicken blood on your hard drive to cleanse it.
This is wacko.

I will admit, I did not read the "Mars Landing Faked" article. I found it insulting and disrespectful, the same way I view Moon Landing deniers. That it was actually a spoof, I did not see, nor do I see parody "in" the article, only as an apology on the website. The REST of the article's website is NOT a spoof or parody and promotes ideas that fly in the face of  all scoentific evidence, much like saying the world is flat.

A few years back I had a nice exchange with someone on Dynaverse over some reviews over a scifi series. He thought it had an insulting tone towards the depection of the military; while I disagreed, I did see how the two examples he cited could offend someone.

Taking one of the greatest technological events of the year, and posting an article that "it's faked" is insulting to the hundreds of hardworking people who made it happen. The fact that the article was a spoof was lost on many people; considering the other content of the website, it's not surprising, and that a mere few weeks later this is the only discussion of Curiousity is this thread aI find sad.

Sadly, that's just my point. Some people out there believe that sort of thing, like "Kubrick helped fake the Moon landing, because he also made 2001."

They're not claiming that the landing was perpetrated by the makers of "Wall-E," they're claiming that "Wall-E" is a type of propaganda film designed to make Americans believe that robots are cute and cuddly.  Everyone knows that Disney hasn't made good propaganda since "Education for Death."

The article also claims that the "faked Mars landing" is intended to make Americans abandon God in favor of worshiping aliens.

Can't we stop beating this dead horse? In honesty, I can't, because you seem to  keep missing my point  and seem contradictory.

A) You say the article is obviously "over the top" because it keeps bringing up Wall-E.

My point is that the Wall-E connection is plausible to many, under the same thinking that is the basis of "Kubrick helped fake the Moon landing" rumor. It does not make the article "clearly satire"- it makes the article more authentic, in a rumor-mongering, fringe-belief sort of vein.

B) You sorta defend the Wall-E connection, to point out that article says it is part of a "mind campaign" to make robots cute, not that "Pixar faked the Mars landing," and that the fake-Mars landing is trying to undermine American religous beliefs.

Do you belive these things? I sure don't. If you don't, do you think they prove the article is satire? I don't, because, again, there are people who believe these sort of things. If you don't believe the article, then we are just disagreeing over semantics and what constitutes a spoof.

If you actually believe the article, then we should have that debate, and I will gladly point you to umteen scientific-based facts that destroy any  "NASA as  a faker of extraplanetary landings" memes.

Not sure what a 70+ year old propaganda proves. In fact, by the comments on the youtube page, there are equal amounts people who say it's anti-German propaganda or that it was a factual portrayal of Nazi Germany. (my fading memories from reading "Rise & Fall of Third Reich" and a cursor google search shows that the Nuremberg Laws only went back 2 generations, not 4 as the film states.) As evil as Nazi Germany was, a political cartoon is a poor basis for informed thinking.

I was just looking for an excuse to post "Education for Death," because I think its one of the most awesome propaganda films ever made.  The film is an anti-Nazi satire that was one of 32 propaganda films that Disney produced under contract from the US government.  War and Dumbo saved Walt Disney.

Back to the article, its over the top in so many ways.  Claiming the intent of the Mars landing is to undermine America's religious beliefs is one thing.  Claiming its intent is to make us worship aliens is way... over the top.  As for the "Wall-E" thing, its such a stretch that its laughable.

That said, we both agree the article is bogus.  You think the people who wrote it were serious, I think it was intentionally done as an over the top parody, and that is what we're arguing about.
