Ok, here it is:

The link to the installer:   ftp://www.dynaverse.net/sfc2ce/Public%20Beta/

The installer is already prepatched and contains the CE patch also.
This location will also contain any patches or updates.

If you find a bug please report it here:  http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php?project=2

This is an updated EAW to run on Dyna/Win 7 etc.

If it asks for a CD Key, use your EAW CD key.

Playing on Dyna, please use the Strat CE Beta.   The Forge CE does not support this version.

Changes:
EAW base code updated to use the current releae of MS C++  (Visual Studio 2012)
Issues with extensive lag while running game on Win 7 resolved
Missions rebuilt for newer version c++

By changing the codebase it makes it easier to fix bugs we find.
Also the dev team has learned a significant amount about the game code and this will help us in the SFC4 development.

If you do not have an SFC: Empires At War Key, you can purchase one here for $5.99:

http://www.dynaverse.net/market/games/10-starfleet-command-empires-at-war.html

The key will activate the full version of SFC: Starfleet Command 2 Community Edition

An update has been released "Beta Update 1" this returns the default key mapping to the game.  This is a self extracting zip to the default install location.

This update only corrects the keymap to the default one.

It took awhile to dl for me but not that long. The speeds seemed to hover around 360Kb per second on a 12Mb line. I think someone needs to put some speed into the hamsters diet.

there are ftp speed regulation rules in place, so yes, you will experience a slower DL than normal, so as not to swamp the entire connection rate for the other webs/services Dnet is running

Downloaded the install and update 3 tonight and got them running without a problem.  Played a couple of tutorials to remind myself of some of the controls and to make sure the models were loading without a hitch.  Logged on to the Dyna and played over half a dozen missions (flying Hydran, of course) before getting kicked off by Strat for a bug fix.

I have to say, this is looking VERY good!  My only quibble would be in not needing Exeter's account info as the default or the odd Lyran single player campaign game save.  ;-)

I'm looking forward to trying some more missions tomorrow.  When I tried to log off tonight, the game hung on exiting the Dyna and sent my wireless router out of whack.  I reset the router, restarted my laptop, and got the internet to reconnect finally.  I'm interested to see whether that was a fluke or not.

I regret not keeping the Custom EAW missions I had before SFC: OP was released.

Where are the working links to the old Centauri Vaughn SFC: EAW missions?

Also the Nuclear Wessels mission packs?

This old site does not have these old custom missions up :(

http://www.strategyplanet.com/sfc/sfc2/mission_sfc2.shtml

I would like to see all of these custom missions as part of an add on.

Centauri Vaughn did a mission called Tomorrow's Enterprise for EAW before h made it for SFC: OP.

Nuclear Wessels did the Evil Dave missions for EAW also.

As far as the Starfleet Universe Missions, I would like all of them.

they were single player, multi player, or dynaverse missions?

Nuclear Wessels missions could be used for single or multiplayer games. IIRC the D2 used a version of those missions for an online campaign or two (Slave Girls of Orion???)

Centauri Vaughn's EAW stuff was single player.

The old Starfleet Universe links show a mix of custom EAW missions that were a mix of single and multiplayer missions.

At any rate, SFC2 EAW CE would greatly benefit if as many of these old missions could be ressurected.

As for the ancient EAW scripts....MORE!!!

ED mish would be Uber...perhaps some work could be done to downgrade the wonderful new scripts for OP down to EAW

IIRC the SFC: OP scripts  are different than the SFC1 and SFC2 scripts so they have to be specific to EAW.

I want the SFC1 Repair Roundevous and the CUSTOM SFC1 monster mission: The Quantum Factor put in SFC2 or OP...

SFC: EAW Custom  mission: Yesterday's Enterprise can be downloaded here:

http://archive.kontek.net/sfc.strategyplanet.gamespy.com/reviews/yesterdays_enterprise_mike_fleisch.shtml

Unfortunately the game does not execute when you use this mission. This may be the SFC1 version?

Also, looking in the Scripts folder of SFC: EAW CE it looks like some of the big random ED missions are already included...

Check here for the latest news on the beta:
http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/board,3304.0.html

As for the missions;
Actually, NONE of the original missions work on the beta, for technical reasons. The only reason we have what we have now is because I found the orignal source code for them, and update and re-released them. Unfortunately, the only missions the had the source code made available, that I could find, were the ED and NW missions for the dynaverse. These missions are in the beta.

I have not been able to find the source for YE.

Strat,

Arcturus "Centauri" Vaughn has offered to let somebody host his missions and host the source codes for his missions. He is listed as a member here....

Thanks for the update on the missions. That will save us all time d/l missions that won't work.

Just a note to all "true" Captains here => The DV Drafing in SFC-CE is functional.

There is a need for multiple players to rattle the cage and see if anything odd show up with multiple draftee's.

IIRC there was some issue with multiple drafts in a single hex that was fixed at some point, though that might be OP code.

The passage of time has eroded my recollection of specifics.

Ya Win7 for the moment.

But that is subject to change/improvement.

I am just glad to be flying again on a DV.

Youtube video for the actual SFC1 Repair Roundevous skirmish mission:

http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163364266.0.html

I wonder if Rod  is still around doing any scripting?

IIRC, Nuclear Wessles scripted a generoc Repair Roundevous mission that allowed SFC: OP players to play it as other races trying to save their CA against the bad guys...

The dyna has been working since the SFC 2:Ce was released, and Win XP works now as well:

There were several Devs who started the conversion over a long period. Some of them are not here anymore.

Namely, (some should sound familiar if you know them):
Bonk
FireSoul
NuclearWessels
Marstone
[UFP]-Exeter
and me.

I would say they all played a valuable role in this release and in participating in some way with fixing the Windows Vista/7/8 Dynaverse, not to mention other things as well.
Edit: That in no way is a complete list. It only the ones I personally could find with the given records going back a few years.

As I have said, it was a team effort. No one I am aware of has taken sole accreditation.

However I will say, one of the devs had helped on that one task was Bonk. And that doesn't include the other devs and testers who contributed to it. Hopefully, that satisfies your concern on the matter of credit. You may like to see all the other advances the team has made as well. Never the less, I stand by my word: It was a team effort of many devs, testers, and the resources of the Dynaverse Association. I do not feel it necessary to make a list of what each person has done over the years, which by the way is quite vast and undocumented....

It is my hope that you will enjoy that we now have a beta working on Vista/7/8 as the result of a dedicated group of people and their hard work over a period of time. Personally, I have only been on the project for about a year, and I value greatly the work done by those before me. It is not often a 10 year old game can be given this type of attention and awesome support.

Bonk is no longer here, but contributed a lot when he was active. AFAIK, FA Frey XC has his personal contact information. You might try to PM him.

Have downloaded the beta for a long time, but had to wait until real life vacation to try it...

Are there any Dynaverse servers up still? I can get to the Campaign Selector, but has nothing in it.

Although playing offline has been a blast as well!

A beta server is up, and many have been active on it.

It's odd that you can not see it. Is a firewall blocking it on your PC?

Is the beta request still open then or is there an ability to try and download the current beta format of the SFC CE?

I attempted the following url ftp://www.dynaverse.net/sfc2ce/Public%20Beta/ and got no where...

I'd love to attempt this or even try the beta format until the released version is up. I saw the may update about the legal issues however nothing new since...
