Kerbal Space Program

Kerbal Space Program is a brilliantly complicated, frustrating and brilliantly original game.

It is a space flight simulator using real physics in the engine.

Like the intro say on the website, "How hard can rocket science really be??"....  The answer is fecking hard!!

The game is set on the planet Kerbin who's dominant species is he Kerbal. These are long armed green skinned creatures that have some uncanny similarity to "Beaker" from the "Muppet Show".

The Kerbal apparently live underground as the only strutuires on the whole planet are the launch pad and the construction hangar.

Technology wise the Kerbal are post bottle rocket and into liquid fueled rockets. They are slightly ahead of NASA in that the have modularised space craft construction. (Players have to design and build their own space craft).

The planet Kerbin has two moons, Mun and in the full game version, Mimus. (More planets are planed for future patches).

The objective for players is to design a spacecraft that can launch from the ground without blowing up / falling apart / loosing control / etc., achieve Kerbin orbit, then head out for one of the moons, successfully land on it, leave the moon and return the astronauts safely to he surface of Kerbin.... It is unbelieveably hard to do.

Its all about orbits, slingshotting, knwoing when to do a rocket burn, fuel management, ship's mass when building, etc.

Basically you run the Apollo moon shot program for the Kerbal....

There is a free downloadable demo which I've already started modding. I've already added in NASA's specific impulse plasma jet RSC thrusters as an alternative to the monochemical RSC thrusters offered as standard in the demo game. I've also added in the Orion atomic fission rocket engine and a few variant capsules.

Both the game and the models are moddable.

You'll never have so much fun at sublight velocities....

The Klingons have many ways to fry a cat. I prefer to use an L7 Fast Battlecruiser!!
