I guess I'm still here.  I don't play SFC anymore.  For one thing, all my systems are outdated and I can't log into Gamespy or Gameranger, so I gave up.  Didn't see a point playing a game only in solitare anymore.  I remember the "good old days" of Gamespy where we had some great tournaments with 4.0.  I really didn't like the X2 battles much, the basic era ships were a blast to compete with however.

Nowadays, I occasionally stop by Fed Commander website and construct SFC models once in a while.  Thats about it.

Just incase anyone is curious, no I am not that guy called "Magnum man" that some people ask me about.  Whats even more curious however, is that I"m also a self taught computer programmer as well.  Interesting eh!  ;)

Still Lurk abit but not much time to do anything anymore.
Magnum you should search the main forums for the place they play at now, there are new host sites now that have replaced gamespy etc. You might be able to connect to those
People always said they wanted the government to listen to them and now the government is listening, taking notes and names...and coming to see you soon!

America-Not the land of the free anymore...

I'm still around and dip my nose in from time to time to see what's happening.

My main problem is still a severe lack of time.  Also my computer finally died and was packed off to be recycled.  I'm using an infirm laptop that can't really cope with the demand of modding, and since it has Vista installed I can't use Max 5 to convert files to .mod so easily.

M/R

... but this is some of the stuff I'm still working on:

(Diz, you might recognise this one)

Nicely done for a Klingon Base MajorRacal. I'll tke that and your FASA Gorn ship(s) please.

I have been lurking here.

I am testing the SFC: EAW CE Beta and have been playing a Klingon campaign on the border of Hydran space there. I miss the OP weapons and the X-ships, and the custom missions available in SFC: OP. I am hoping some of the old SFC2 custom made missions at least get converted to the new SFC2 EAW CE.
SFC1 still has THE Ultimate skirmish mission: Repair Roundevous and the BEST custom made monster mission: The Quantum Factor. The SFC1 campaigns were a lot more entertaining than the dribble we got in SFC: OP...

SFC2 EAW CE also needs a NEW D2 mod. I have a list of suggestions starting with each fleet must be made like they were built by the same manufacturer.

I, Mudd did a fantastic Planet/asteroid set as well.

I have pretty much moved on. Real Life gives me very little free time to model any more, and i really have lost my muse. I was hoping to make a re-imagined "Federation, and Empire" style mod for Sins of a Solar Empire. With re-imagined SFB ships (i hated the original SFB designs. Especially the romulans). Lots of ideas. Like using a modified NX class as the "old light cruiser", and a total makeover of the romulan sparrowhawk, and condor, but after my drive crashed, and like a fool i didn't back it up, and lost every WIP i had. Including the McQuarrie WIP i posted a long time ago. I just lost all motivation to redo everything again from scratch. That was years ago.

Now i pretty much lurk, and give advise, and opinions to those that ask for it. One of the few "geezer gamers" on the sins boards. I just play the games now :)

Awww, KF, I thought you'd recognise that one as the FASA Romulan F-2 Nestar class Repair Facility... I suppose she does look a little Klingon though

And here's a multiview of the Black Country class Frigate.

Also, I recently found an unfinished attempt at the FASA Genser class Escort, she still needs nacelles:

The Romulan Targs learned everything they know about space travel from us. It's been awhile since Ilooked at the FASA manuals... Nice work on the Genser.

Terradyhne,

Nice work but how about releasing some of you gazillion OTHER non-Fed ships too please...

BTW: I did a Klingon Academy style retexture of the new Tholian ships...

I moved onto other things as well, made a few hundred kitbashes in around 10+ years so i figured its about the time I call it quits.
I pretty much ran out of things I'd like to bash because the way i see it, I made every and any possible combination of the models I had available / every and any possible combination I wanted to make.
I didnt want to get to a point where i just simply keep rehashing the same sh*t over and over again.
Better to be remembered for the better stuff I made rather than a mass of rehashed crap.
Similar scenario to that of tv serieses that run for far too long and just become old and tired (SG1 ended after a proper run, the simpsons are still on and have been horribad since the fifth or sixth season).

Also, my skills and my tools have became antiquated so I cant really provide much to modern gaming either so im fairly certain my bashing and modeling days are over.

Im not angry or bitter over this but thats just how it is, just need to find something else to occupy my time with :)

I feel very much the same way. There was a cusp there around 2000-2003 where the hobbyist could run with the professional artists, but now it is impossible to keep up without investing huge amounts of time and money.

The final straw for me was dealing with those DIFF clowns back in.. 2004?? (Wow, almost ten years ago.) I pretty much said too hell with anything Star Trek and Star Trek related. The game no longer excited me; I had no interest in "Enterprise", Star Trek was just dead in my eyes. I went to SWG (Star Wars Galaxies) from 2004-2009 and had a blast; during that time period a whole lot of life changing events; very difficult at first but ended up for the better. Afterwards I dabbled in STO on and off for about two years 2010-2012. Although many changes were made to the game it's just the same: "blow this up and kill this" scenario, over and over. I also felt pressured to "keep up" in order to maintain a decent character / ship build for PvP. This made STO feel more like work than play and I have enough r/l s*** to do as it is. In addition, I have little tolerance for the rudeness, poorly managed fleets, and the rampant whining that plagues the STO community. I uninstalled STO and never looked back. (If anyone wants to buy my STO account feel free to PM me.) I realized that my taste for gaming changed and I prefer to be involved in things that are more creative than destructive. Believe it or not, I'm actually involved in Trainz. I made a nice crappy metro route and I am currently scripting the sessions. I am curious about SFC CE, and to be honest, that’s about it. I will have to play SFC CE to see if anything further will come of it.

Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated. I am posting on the sfc 4 topics. Though i haven't modeled anything in years there is nothing to say i wont start again if the motivation returns.

It would be nice to see you guys in action again. I miss the ole days. I'm sure everyone does.

Adam

As with many of us we've changed, grown, and yet still appreciate the lessons learned as we passed through this part of our life.  While I personally have several regrets, there was only ONE that really bothered me greatly.  That is as you say:  "in action."  I was just barely learning the basics of modeling and was unable to translate the ideas I had into functional models.  While I will never be the expert that many others are, I only wish that I had enough experience in modeling back then to make useable contributions.

I admit I miss a lot of the brain storming and successfully completed projects that we were a part of.  My son's SFC-3 MOD G.A.W. without question was one the best times we had.

Still have the install files around somewhere, always been meaning to go back to them and pull out the ships we did and backconvert them for SFC 2/1.. one of these days.  Maybe 2014 will be the year.. :p
