Star Fleet Battles Online
« on: June 08, 2012, 08:43:27 am »
Anyone here want to play Star Fleet Battles Online with me? Currently all I use it for is haphazard research for stories. It'd be cool to have a real battle with someone I know.

There are a few people active in OP on the GameRanger multiplayer client. Mostly fridays + weekend evenings.

I would, especially since we are nearly in the same time zone, but damn that is a lot of $$ for a sim.
Snickers@DND: If there is one straight answer in that bent little head of yours, you'd better start spillin' it pretty damn quick, or I'm gonna take a large, blunt object, roughly the size of Kallae AND his hat and shove it lengthwise up a crevice of your being so seldomly cleaned that even the denizens of the nine hells would not touch it with a 10-feet rusty pole

I think it's more because of Amarillo Design Bureau's snub of D.Net and thus the communities reluctance to support anything involving them.

*shrugs*

It's with good reason, but that may change soon.. hopefully.

Thanks Tobin & Strat. Unfortunately my desktop just broke and I don't know how to fix it yet. I have SCF:OP installed there, and I don't want to put it on my work laptop. I'll check out the GameRanger client.

Ah, Rog... This from the RPG guy. How many rules and set up requirements does an average RPG have?

I am not on SFBOL, but I'd consider it.  Right now, I can only play via email, so it's an improvement.  I read the site stuff and I can credit you as a referrer with your callsign.

I'm the D&D guy who never buys the DMG...because there's nothing in there I need. I learn the basics and go on. Also prefer RPG's with FEWER rule sets. Because they're not tedious.

SFB is a products of the gaming industry in the '70's and early '80s.  Tedium was practically required by law.  Considering the amount of paper me and the Guv went through playing the FASA ST combat game in our youth, I have trouble wrapping my head around the idea of how much dead trees and time it'd take to play out one of those really big SFB scenarios on a table.

I'd play this with ya' if it was free, Andy, just to give it a try, but not so keen on a subscription fee for what amounts to a time-saving device.  $79 for a year will get me an iRacing subscription.

There are more things in heaven and earth, and in the sky, than perhaps can be dreamt of. And somewhere in between heaven, the sky, the earth, lies the Twilight Zone."
