Please Help...
« on: January 23, 2012, 08:40:29 pm »
Last Sunday i came home to find that mal-ware had infested my computer.  With a security/virus protection program from my ISP the mal-ware is gone but i have an iOmega external harddrive with 256bit encryption that is now, in the words of their tech support person that i spoke to, a doorstop.

While the device is still under warranty they will not replace it because, in the words of the same tech person, the device IS working properly.

Since this is all my fault for haveing an old and obsolete computer, not backing up my files on web providers, and not remembering the password or username for my device...i bought this external drive from RadioShack, it was on sale and honestly i am about as tech savy as neanderthal man.  i was explained to that all i had to do was plug it in and it would do the rest.  there was no option presented for a password or user name when i installed this device.

this device has almost twenty years of my life on it; ship models, movies, songs(when they were free and p2p was not a death sentence)old computer programs that still are good but have gone the way of the dodo and most importantly, to me anyway, photos of family that are, well, departed.

i can't pay much.  i work for the Salvation Army as a monitor in their Homeless Veteran's  Assistance program, i have a vindictive ex-wife wanting me dead, pay more child support since her and her boyfriend want a vacation (didn't know child support was to be used for boyfriends) or in jail or all of the above if it's tuesday.

so my appeal is to all you hacker/g33k-l33t/CC++/neo-white rabbit individuals out there.  i would appreciate ANY information/assistance because iOmega just isn't interested in my dilema and there is no way i can afford the price GeekSquad quoted me unless i rob fort knox AND take every leader of every country in the world hostage.

come to think about it...i think those bastards did this so i would take all the world's leaders hostage and then they would move on in and establish their own world order!!!  damn those BestBuy(TM) fiends!!!

you all can leave a message here or in my Yahoo account.

thanks.

P.S.
Thanks for the replies and even though none were viable I still appreciate and am hopeful that someone will provide the information to remedy this.  Also, to answer a common query as to what I have on the drive, as I stated before, there are movies, so old programs for data compression and video, ship models for SFC, SFC-EAW, SFC-III, music, music videos, wallpapers/screens saver and photos of my family.  THERE IS NO PORN.

Most have joked about it but it surprised me as to the inqueries that were willing to assist as long as they got a share.
Sorry guys and gals but I don't do porn.

did you google the drive type and encryption software used on it, there might be a hack already out there either that or try a hex code editor to see if you can extract the key with it
People always said they wanted the government to listen to them and now the government is listening, taking notes and names...and coming to see you soon!

America-Not the land of the free anymore...
Its the land of the freeloaders

Remember the axiom of big government bureaucrats: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. When, finally, under the crushing weight of taxes and regulation, it stops moving, subsidize it.

Try re-posting this on the Engineering sub-forum.  I think you would get more people with the ability to help you with this over there.  If that doesn't help try here:  http://www.techsupportforum.com/    One of the Engineering forum posters is or was a moderator over there, went by the name of MidnightTech.  Hope this helps.
