Recommend a good custom desktop shop?
« on: March 02, 2012, 04:47:01 pm »
I last used CyberPowerPC several years ago but they seem more high end with less options now. Looking for a shop/site that allows  customization down to skipping on the video card so that i can use a surplus SLI  I have.

Looking to go sub $800 for a Win7 8GB i5 with a 19" LCD (minus video card). Any suggestions?

Can you build it yourself.  If you can then I would suggest checking out Maximum PC, they have a couple of $800 build lists.  Hope this helps.

Nice site and building one by hand would be good since this for my 12yr old and he should learn what is ticking under the cover, but I can't find those $800 build lists. Is there a specific sectin or article that had them?

Look in the PDF archives, there you can look at each issue and the build in it. I suggest looking at the August 2011 issue for the $667 budget build which with a monitor will come out near your $800 mark. The i3 in that should be more than enough for a 12 year old and you can bump up the parts as you see fit.
I am alright, it is the world that is wrong.

Looks like the motherboard is no longer in stock. Noticed Newegg has DIY kits. Anybody ever buy one of these?

I buy all my parts from Newegg. They are good. Id assume the kits are good to go.
