request for vipers, x-wings, and tie fighters in squadrons

To the Group:

Please consider making squadron versions (a model that has 3 or 4 of these fighters in low poly together in a squadron formation), in a manner similar to the squadron version of the Buck Rogers fighters, for the following fighters:

1.  BSG Vipers
2.  X Wing Fighters
3.  Y Wing Fighters
4.  Tie Fighters
5.  Tie Interceptors
6.  Tie Bombers.

There are excellent single ship models for each of these fighters already, but none have been made into a squadron formation, which could be very useful for some of the mods we'd like to run.

Thank you for any efforts and consideration.

Kreeargh made a 7-flight Viper squadron that I use all the time in the Romulan slot (for the Colonial Alliance). Screen gets scary/messy when there's a bunch of 'em comin' at you.

Only way that this picture would be better would be if you replaced your planet meshes with some of the ones from here, I,Mudd did some nice ones.  ;)

I pulled most of my Bsg work from battleclinic last year. I didnot save any copys on the pc I am useing now.
Please upload the zip here or let the mesh die out. P81 created a quality mesh that could be use for the same im sure those at battleclinic could make a mod simmler.
For totalcredit  Unknown Warrior created that model in the back ground! I maped it with a moded version of coxxons Pegasus textures. The Viper is my mesh useing Coxxon viper textures moded ;) :-[

My vipers way to much poly there  :'(.
Im not sure about the textures yet the Tie. But it should be low enough in poly  :angel: As for the xwing  :-[ mixed results going for detail vrs low poly I wish to create. P81's xwing would work better for this mod.

As I said, I been loving those vipers flying in formation for years now. If the Vipers have "way too much poly" it's never effected my games....

FWIW, I found that it was pretty easy to make little squadrons using the "SFcEDv2" utility, and I am by no means a modeler. As an example, I made a 3 ship flight of the TOS "DaVinci" tyoe 9 shuttle (by ModelsPlease on Battleclinic). I just hit "Select All" in Polygons, copied, hit "select none," and pasted. Holding shift and "S/A/X/Z/C/D" could move the pasted one into the right position. And it took me maybe 5 minutes to do.

I know that this tool has a lot of other uses that I am in the dark about using, but even I was able to cut apart some models, shrink em, attach em to other parts... but I am at a loss as to who and where this utility came from.... (by "CCC"? In 2001?)

You dont get any lag with a full carrier launch ?  Fan of M6/sfced born with it and still use it to test and view. :thumbsup:

Are you talking about the MFCSFCED program, or something else?   We've used that program to shrink & expand and tweak a bit over the years, but I didn't know it had a copy function.

If that's not the program you're using, can you point me to where the program you're using is located?

If that is the program, can you tell me how to copy?

Ok, in a high tech attempt, posting this from.my phone... :)

Yeah, that's the program i use, vers. 2 i believe. Don't have it here in front of me (obviously) but as i said above, in the "polygon" menu I hit "select all", and etc. as i wrote. Don't remember how i found it, I don't remember seeing it in the .doc manual included, but hey, it worksp

As far as lag, i was wondering - I've been using those vipers for fighters for the Romulans. Roms don't get fighters but I used the well-known "donor race" approach, which works well in giving the Roms fighters, BUT... A flight of fighters was always represented by one fighter model in game, regardless of whether it was 2, 3, or 4 ftrs... Which is why I went looking for multiple vipef models in the first place.
Besides wondering if this is just a little glitch eith the donor race approach, if one were to use a model like the 7-viper one above in a race like Feds that does have fighters naturally, then a flight of 4 fighters would show up as 28 little.vipers, and yes, I'd expect... some... lag :)

I'll maybe experiment with this. When I'm actually at my.computer. But wouldn't it be cool to play SFC on a tablet? Touchscreens are so 21st century...

Thanks so much for the insights and info.  TAnimal's comments, however brief, were enormously helpful.  So far this afternoon I've made a 4 pack of the x wing, y wing, tie fighter, tie bomber, tie interceptor, viper (blue version), and possibly the old style cylon raider (I think the cylon raiders will cause too much lag on my old pc's, but we'll see).

I hope to have the kids try them out this week and let me know how they work out.

Oh, BTW, how do you tweak to add just 1 more fighter to a group, so that, for example, I can make a squadron go from 2 to 3 fighters?  I've successfully made 2 and 4 pack squadrons, but I can't figure out how to just add 1 more fighter to a 2 fighter group so that I can get a 3 fighter squadron.

Kid, if I'm following your question correctly, I ran into the same thing with my 3-shuttle bash. I did it by saving in stages, like this:

1) opened the model in question ("shtl"), selected, copied, pasted; then saved it under a new name, i.e. "shtl_x2"

2) opened "shtl" again, selected, copied.

5) opened "shtl_x2", pasted another shuttle, saved as "shtl_x3"

Is this what you meant?

BTW,how does the community at large feel about sharing these? Most modelers just state in their ReadMes about credit, etc; I wouldn't want to step on any toes by doing what I did above, releasing the 3 ship version of a model I didn't make.

{edit} duh, I forgot,  you could just always paste twice in step 1, you just have to remember to "select none" in the "Polygon" menu between pastings.
