but i was wondering if anyone here was trying to work on SFC programming projects? Or has everyone converted over too Star Trek Online? What i mean is, is SFC4 pretty much a dead issue now?

Think FoaS is working on one.. and I personally won't touch ST:O as I see it as an STD.

Pay to Play? No thanks, not while I still have my good old trusty "Buy once, play forever" games like SFC.

Actually STO is now free to play but I still will not bother as it is no longer where I want to spend my time on-line. I have played allot of games over the years, and if they are a play to play once the free subscription runs out the game comes off the computer, and I give it to friends. when the next version comes out and i don't have the first version still on a shelf I don't buy it as it was not worth the price for the orginal.

Still have the SFC 1, 2 and OP boxes though the disk for SFC 1 doesn't work anymore.

Now back to the question, yes they are still working on it but it is slow going I would not expenct anything soon. FoaS is working on ships for the game and others programming sounds etc, but since most of it is done on spare time available it will not be fast

Ok. Well, you see, this is what worries me a bit. From the reports I heard, Paramont took a heavy hit in the Star Trek franchise in 2004. So you say that "S-T-O" is free now, that means if Paramont is "Alive" in anyway then they are not making money off of this. So who exactly is "running" this "Star Trek Online" game?

In some ways, I'm kinda glad Some people are working on an SFC game of some sort. I wouldn't totally abandon ADB's product, even if it is a bit old and... well... dried up. It is still a company that has some legal rights to some of this anways, unlike many freelance programmers. As an experiment with dynaverse, has anyone ever thought of something similar to ADB's "SFB Online" program has? Its totally HTML driven. Of course, you need the rule books to use "SFB Online", but hey, SFC comes with the Cadet manual (hint, hint!).

I agree to disagree.. I saw the guy and his group in concert including him riding out on stage on a Segway just before "White and Nerdy". The guy and his group rocked the house, and they do a Hawaiian based vocal excercise that is absolutely awesome.

agree, been a fan of Al since the late 70's. Took my son and a friend of his to one his concerts, had to buy two sets of tickets as lost them the night of the concert. Was still worth it at double the cost.

First off I would like to say, we got off topic in less that 6 posts I think that is a new record around here.

From what I heard CBS owns the rights to Star Trek and not Paramount, when Paramount got bought out way back when the francish was sold off.
The game Designers had a contract to run the game the servers for only so long at that point I believe it went public and hence free. I think they had to update and improve content, and pay a licencing fee, to keep it pay to play and the programming company did not see it as worth the cost.

I also have seen Al in concert, have liked him since I first heard him on a radio show hosted by Dr. Demento way back when on a Sunday night

Ah, thank you for correcting me. Yes, you are right, CBS (and I guess Viacom) are the only companies left that control Star Trek. But none the less, I still want to know who is running this "Star Trek Online"? Is is CBS/Viacom then?

STO is under license from CBS for the Star Trek setting, made bei Cryptic studios and later Atari. Now Cryptic has been sold to Perfect World and STO is free to play.
