Something that really annoys me

Has anyone noticed that the special features available on DVDs are getting more sparse?  It really irks me that they're trying to push me to bluray by intentionally gutting DVD as a format.

I haven't really noticed, but I haven't bought a new movie in a long time that isn't Digital. IE. Netflix streaming, PS3, or Vudu, etc.

But yeah, I can see where that would be annoying. I love to watch the older movies like Godzilla and see the making of, or other little mini documentaries that go along with them.

Besides, who here amongst us hasn't sat down to watch the alternate language version of Galaxy quest?

I haven't bought bluray because the DRM is too much.  Why should they have the right to say that the disc I bought last year can't play on the player it worked on then?

I'm not particularly interested in having the sharpest picture or the best sound.  The primary reason I upgraded from VHS to DVD had to do with the special features offerings.  That's also why I'm so irritated now.  While the DVD releases have fewer and fewer special features, most of the exclusive features on the bluray releases are ones that could have easily been implemented on DVD format if the studios weren't trying to jam bluray in our faces.

I agree with you.  While I do tend to play the devils advocate with regards to DRM, what they're doing with bluray is too much for even me to defend.  If I'm buying a stand alone player, that isn't going to be hooked up to the internet I shouldn't have to periodically upgrade the firmware in order to simply play movies.

Or worse that the player you bought last year won't play that new movie you bought. The DRM has changed since then and you need to connect the player to the internet to update it which can be a huge issue for people that do not have internet.
