=/\= voyager 1 leaving our solar system
« on: December 08, 2011, 01:22:41 pm »
as previously reported here, the voyager 1 probe is getting very close to leaving our solar system.  a new article today talks about it and brings up a good point that it is hard to determine exactly where the effects of the sun end and the "extra-solar" area of space begins. scientists say it could be a few months to a few years for the voyager 1, traveling at ~11miles/second, to truly enter "extra-solar" space. but, the exciting part is that this is the first man made object to travel this far. amazing how far it has gotten since 1977!
