Getting Started with OP
« on: August 17, 2011, 10:40:26 pm »
I just picked up OP from the Marketplace and have a few questions on how to get started. I'm looking to try out the base single player game before trying out mods, but mod suggestions are welcome. I'm familiar with setting up SFC 3, but it's been several years and I missed OP when it came out.
  • Are there any patches needed for the Marketplace version?
  • Does OP need an access server patch like SFC 3?
  • Is there a setting to allow play without having to load the CD?
  • Is there a post detailing the current preferred setup/installation steps?
  • Any other suggestions?

Thanks

1,2 4 and 5 yes help has been posted on this forum. For sfc2 and OP you do not need to run the cd to run the game. SFC1 and sFC3 needs a cd to play. As what I know anyway.

My search has failed me. Can someone point me to a post that details what needs to be installed in what order for OP purchased from the Marketplace on a WinXP system?

You can try:

Install:
http://www.daemon-tools.cc/eng/products/dtLite

After the unzip the marketplace download there should be a iso file. Use that program to 'mount' the file as a CD and then it all normal from there.

OR

use 7zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) to unpack the iso to some dir and run the setup in there. After all done you could delete the dir if you wanted.

Thanks for the info Strat. I actually bought Alcohol 120 years ago and use it for mounting ISO's etc.

Unfortunately, I wasn't clear about what I'm looking for. Mainly, is anything required other than just running the setup from the ISO? Patches, etc.?

For an example of what I'm looking for, here's a post http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php/topic,163362630.0.html I made years ago about what I found was required for SFC 3.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, sorry.

Well, the patch mostly. A lot of people use op+4 or 4.1.

There is also the enhancement pack that is supposed to make it more stable. I'd give links but I'm just passing through at the moment. Sorry!

Hey guys....I'm having an interesting issue with SFC EAW & OP. I cannot find my original install disk of EAW so I couldn't do much in that area. I DID uninstall EAW OP completely and reinstalled but it didn't do jack.

Problems started when I attempted to use the dloadable scripts for custom missions, campaigns, and more importantly, the EAW campaign for OP.

Well suffice to say, the campaigns in both games don't work. I go in, and I get none of the 'story time' campaign missions. I never even got to finish them all!
I only get shipyard defense, planetary assault, patrol, scan, etc.....the time waster missions. I'd LOVE to get the campaign missions back, and especially Nuclear Wessels Warp Patrols.

Anywoot. If anyone's dealt with this before or has advice I'm open to suggestions. If it's a simple thing I need to tweak thatd be nice, but I figured a complete uninstall of OP and reinstall would give me campaign missions. I use an iso for OP, can't find my original disk. Possibly corrupt?
