Old New Player, what should I install?

It has been a long time since I've installed and played SFC, any version... and, I was in the mood to reinstall the game, and was wondering what version I should install. I have SFC II, SFC II:Orion Pirates, and SFC III (well, and SFC I, but SFC II was better, so what's the point?)...

I found this forum, and found out I actually had an log in from the last time I played, back in '05... But, I was wondering what is still being played? What version should I install? What versions are still geting fan made patches, and what is still being played online?

Also, are there problems installing or playing any of these in Windows 7? Are there guides to get past them? Or, worst case, I do have a computer I haven't upgraded from XP yet.

So... What should I install? What patches should be installed? What else should I know after not playing for 6 years?

Currently, and this is hoped to be changed soon, but.  Use your XP computer, its the only way to get onto the D2.  SFC:OP is as it is, FireSoul has just released his OP+4.1 but that's probably the end of OP as we know it. (not because it's bad, far from it, but there is no way to make OP work on Vista/7 at this time)  Dynaverse.net has the source to EAW, and is working on bringing it up to OP specs, including a Windows Vista/7 patch.

SFC: EAW and OP work on Win 7 (x86 and x64). I've got them!

Only the Dynaverse multiplayer does not work currently, but only a few loyalists play the Dynaverse regularly. Singleplayer and Gamespy multiplayer work just fine. You should find a few die-hards still play on Gamespy a few nights a week. So do whatever is comfortable to to you.

Soon, like Lieutenant said, Dynaverse support will be repaired for Vista/7, and hopefully that will rejuvenate interest overall!
