Suggest a good HD back up program for me please?
« on: July 11, 2011, 01:08:19 pm »
One of my large drives which has 3 partitions on it, Is slowly dying on me, so as soon as I can afford it, I'll grab a new Sata and get away from the old IDE. ow the video clips is no problem as I can drag and drop them, but given that I have a limit of 34 gig download each month, It would take a year to download all my steam, gog, and Impulse games again.

Is there a real world practical solution to do a disk copy at 1:1 ? I can easily change the drive letter afterwords so as not having to worry about getting into regedit later on.

Thanks ahead of time guys.

Clonezila will do it, I've used it at work to backup all the workstations in the lab and can restore a system within 30 mins roughly with it. The slow algorithm will take a bit longer but using the ntfs clone in clonezilla should do it, be sure to read up on it though as the navigation is a little quirky till you get used to it

Clonezilla and Norton Ghost are the only two reliable ones I know of as well, Ghost cost money though but I use for work backing up laptops and making images to clone PCs from

I have always used AMANDA for this type of problem. For one thing, it is free. I am not that familiar with clonezilla but if a lot of users are suggesting it, then it is definitely worth a look. Though, to be a little more dynamic, you might want to check on those who has a web interface so you can access some information regarding your back up.
