E@W "Promises to Keep" mission help needed
« on: May 23, 2011, 12:05:09 pm »
I need to help with the "Promises to Keep" mission.  Is there a way to disengage after delivering to the planet/picking the sick up?  I'm having problems leading the freighter out by tractor and it won't seem to leave if I just follow it.  I'm getting sick of spending 20+minutes on this and usually lose one of my ships because it will drift too far away...

Thanks

Hail the freighter and tell it where you want it to go. Its actually that simple, and yet, can be broken down as follows (and seem overly complex):

Target freighter
select communications tab - you should see something like "change course" and "disengage"
-under "change course" you have 2 of 3 options, "Def Satellite", "Minelayer" and "Planet". You won't have the option to select the destination you are going to already, but the other two will be available.
-selecting disengage will have the freighter go to the nearest exit. If you have a tractor on the freighter be sure to rotate the freighter behind you so you hit the magic red line before the freighter. If the freighter leaves before you do, even if you are microseconds away from warping out yourself, you die.

Hope that helps!

**Highly recommend you play this from the ISC side, when you are done with your current campaign of course. It makes for a very interesting change :) **

Thanks.  One problem I'm having is one of my 2 ships always seems to drift too far away from the freighter, even when I've got a tractor beam on.  Suggestions?  I'm also tried having it "follow target" but it starts going whereever it wants as soon as I switch ships   >:(

It is best to use one ship not two of them and get one with plenty of drones or marines. You want to keep the drones for the defense platform and try capturing one if the ISC frigates with your marines. It is best to attack the ships first then the platform and freighter and proceed on to the planet Mission Complete.

I have to second what Age suggested; you have to ditch the fleet for this particular mission.  Or else live with the fact that your fleet mate is going to inevitably stray out of the protection of the freighter.

And no matter the race, I always tractor the freighter and carry it for the entire ride.  No muss, no fuss.

I'm usually not at the point prestige wise to have a second ship at this mission (I am not a fan of Frigate Squadrons).  This mission is usually the first (maybe second) mission that I'm flying in a Heavy Cruiser.

I've got an NCA+ and DE (Phaser-Gs, baby!).
Plus, the computer doesn't allows let me double-tractor the freighter   :knuppel2:

I may just have to sacrifice the DE;  Try to keep the freighter close and have it attempt to capture/destroy the first attacker but...

Well, there is one option... You can form a tractor chain.  You order your DE to tractor the Freighter, then you tractor the DE.

Although the Federation version of this mission I think you just hail the ship, ask for permission, and they tell you to go to the mine-layer, you do so (at condition green) and mission complete.

It is best to stick to one ship and use Dyna rules no fleeting which is what I do only by now on this mission I usually have F-GSC as I hack the game files to give me more PP and I start in early era.

I hailed the freighter and told it to set course for the planet and then proceeded to run IN TO THE PLANET killing me instantly   :(

What you have to do first is take out either the defense platform or the minelayer then proceed on to the planet. It is best to tractor the freighter in tow behind you.It is best to keep it away from the planet.
