[DRS] Projects in Development
« on: May 01, 2011, 11:33:53 am »
With the ever-increasing gap between new postings at DRS, I figured I could at least maintain interest in the interim with a general WIP thread.

First up, for all the X-Ship fans and J-Prise haters:

This one features engines designed by Atolm, with hull and saucer shamelessly taken from the "new" Enterprise. My intent is to incorporate the new design into the established Starfleet lineage while at the same time expanding on the X-Era concept.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!

I hope that people will not automatically paint it with the same brush they do the JJ-prise, regardless as to wether they like the JJ-prise or not. I like that you and atolm have taken it into the fold, and are working on something new with it: Kudos.

if I HAD to find something to critique about (not an easy thing so far) I would say that the large flight-deck on the shuttlebay feels like wasted space, what with so much deck-space on the outside of the shuttlebay doors, BUT that's really just a nitpick - keep going mate, i want to see where this goes :).

Love the saucer, deflector assembly, and warp bussard design.
The pen is truly mightier than the sword.  And considerably easier to write with.

Wasn't that the whole retro look that the Abrhamiprise went for though?  Am most definitely not a fan of the style, but I support WZ for doing it.  Any new ship for SFC is a good ship.  :)

I can see there being some spacing issues with the shuttle bay area - I may revisit that section. As for the engines, they're just floating out there for now. Once the rest of the ship is in place, they may (or may not) have the right scale.

Shifting direction, I've been working on a revision of the SFB Orion Raider with the intent of making it less pointy.

Neat take! I've tried thinking on how to do the raider without it looking like a space coffin and I could never get it quite right. It looks like you've done what I couldn't :)

Raider looks great. Keeps with both the original SFB reference and your own pirate designs. Makes me happy to see my favorite modeler continuing with his brilliant work.

AWESOME Raider! I loath the stock Taldren pirates, and this is a nice re-do of the SFB, a little retro with the curves. I like!
