The company adds:

Set against the thrilling and exotic backdrop of a "galaxy far, far away," Star Wars is perfectly suited to the immersive 3D theatrical experience, and Episode I delivers some of the Saga's most stunning and spectacular sequences - from the Naboo invasion to the Tatooine Podraces to the climactic lightsaber battle between Darth Maul and the Jedi.

Supervised by Industrial Light & Magic, the meticulous conversion is being done with utmost respect for the source material, and with a keen eye for both technological considerations and artistic intentions.

South Park, Season 12, Episode 8, "The China Problem", hit the nail on the head with Lucas. The only saving grace of all of this would be Natalie Portman in 3D... :D

Seriously, and I don't want to spark a huge debate or anything, this trio of movies should be left alone. Good, bad or indifferent, they are what they are, and barring a massive rewrite to fix the known issues, should be left alone.

Personally, I thought that they were OK. Not great, not good, just OK, as a whole. But what's done is done, and what's being done is... well... being done.

*HOWEVER*

I would not mind seeing The Trilogy (there is only one trilogy) in 3D. Princess Leia in a gold bikini in 3D? Nice. Entire Death Star II fight sequence in 3D? The Battle of Hoth? Death Star trench scene? Yeah I would love to see all of that in 3D.

But for either the trio or The Trilogy to stand the test of time, Lucas needs to figure out how to leave the movies alone. Instead of redoing them every so often, why not release a post-Jedi trio based out of some of the books? Then he could do anything he wanted with a more or less clean slate, including 3D, and be done with it.

Its like when you bake a cake, then put icing on it - there comes a point where the more you fiddle with the icing the more it looks less than perfect. Lucas just needs to eat his cake already. Looked just fine when it came out of the oven in '77, '80, and '83.

Its called extortion.  Lucas knows that noone wants to see the prequels, so he's re-releasing them first with the warning that if they're not successful we'll never see our 3D trench run.

Since when has Lucas had respect for his own material?

Also, if they want to change something they could shoot Jar Jar in his first scene. That would be a huge improvement.

Jar Jar isn't that bad.  Star Wars isn't supposed to be taken seriously.  Personally, I think the biggest mistake with the Phantom Menace was killing Darth Maul in the first film.

Now the clonewars animated series might have something on that.  From the wookiepedia

Jar Jar made me stop watching the first movie. Maybe some day in the future I will be able to sh*t through the Jar jar scenes.

Only the origional edit of Episode IV was a great movie.  Episode V was OK, and when they used CGI to turn the white walls into windows, it added a nice effect.  They had a little too much going on outside, though.

As far as the rest of the movies go, they're awful.  The only way to improve them is to completely rewrite the scripts, and redesign everything.

Chuck Norris was allowed to appear in all 6 Star Wars films, all TV shows, all books, and any other form of media. He appeared as "The Force".

I think, so long as this goodfact isn't edited out, we'll be more or less ok.

I don't plan on seeing the Phantom Menace in 3d.  If that kills the efforts to release the others in 3d...oh well.

On the otherhand, how about Borg in 4d?

 :crazy2:

I wouldn't mind seeing the Genesis effect with the Enterprise zooming away from it in 3d.

When it came time to introduce the movies to our son, we started him with episodes IV-VI. Then we let him watch the first 3 which strikes me as eye candy, stiff dialogue/acting, poor writing etc.

I've seen IV, V and VI repeatedly.  I and II once.  I have the DVD for III but never got around to watching it.
