Week one, and thanks for all of the suggestions in the former thread.

Each week, I'll take the winner, and put him in the list for bracket 2, and post the next competition for that week.

This week, is between The Last Star Fighter http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087597/

A videogaming boy, seemingly doomed to stay at his trailer park home all his life, finds himself recruited as a gunner for an alien defense force.

and Thunderbirds  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0167456/

When The Hood finds and invades International Rescue's secret base and traps most of the Tracy family, only young Alan Tracy and his friends can save the day.

Place your votes now and we will find our communities best sci fi movie.

The remake of ThuderBirds sucked it was spy kids 4. ThunderBirds was about the cool equipment and the rescues. the remake wasnt.

So last starfighter got my vote.

But if it was the original puppet version that would have got my vote instead.

Thunderbirds was ok and my young son really enjoyed, more so than the last starfighter, probably because of the kids element. My vote however is for last starfighter just like everyone else so far. The villain was over the top but otherwise it worked well and the cray computer did a nice job except for the ship crashing into the planet. That was one shot that didn't work.

I like instant gratification. Besides we all know Blade Runner will win.

Personally I thought that for week one we'd have the entire list to start with, week two being the winners from week one, and so on until we have a winner.

But i'm cool with whatever works best for the author. No matter which way things go, its gunna be a tough one to post and keep track of.

How about this guys, the voting will only be up for a week, But I will put up the next vote every three days.  That should keep it fresh enough, and still allow time for others to get in and see what we have going on?

ow, ouch, that score so far... I mean, I lked Thunderbirds ok and my kids liked it, and Starfighter is just a better film, but man, no love showing up there :)

and BladeRunner better not win for "best scifi" film. Piece of trash psuedo-noir with flying cars thrown in...

That's one thing I'm sure a lot of us are guarded against, and that is we are such Prolific readers, we have to remember to separate the written from the Celluloid, when judging these things.
