So I sent you the files, don't worry about it if they look complex half of it is just so i can make changes easily. Also you will see in the engine files that they are made so i can try different looks quickly by hiding layers. They are also set so a layer that is useful can be copied to a new texture eaily.

You will also see mistakes like where I put things onto layers i shouldn't have, I basically make one a learning experience and a try to do better every time I do one.
Still have to install PSP again but can probably answer most questions from memory, hopefully, for how to do some of the things. either way i think once you get the basics of the tools in the program you will do fine with making and updating a texture base for your ships
People always said they wanted the government to listen to them and now the government is listening, taking notes and names...and coming to see you soon!

Trying to learn it all but even what i see with your work here there is no way i would be able to come close at all. Texturing is an Art modeling is a task/job. Modeling to me is vert points how to shape the poly thing to fit the theme. Textures is to me an art some have it some do not , those that can make the shapes look worthy. Make it look like its real thats an ART.

Modelling ships is an art as well, don't kid yourself or sell yourself short.  My meshing skils are little above some basic shapes, think my TARDIS console is one of the more complex shapes I've been able to do.  But that's nowhere near your Madame De Pompadour that's sitting on my hard drive waiting for me to complete her.  I see it as the difference between sculpting and painting.. both are art and both are artists.  :D

Agreed! I may be able to paint them decently but I've got really no skills when it comes to modelling. And it's much easier to texture a well made model!

It is all art from beginning to end
It takes a artist to produce the model, shaping it is not as easy as most think.
Mapping the model is art to me this was always the hardest thing to do
Textures are art work as well you have to love drawing to produce them

We all started some place, the first mess was not as good as the last one you did, same goes for mapping and making textures. Look at the earlier versions of the engine textures, they are no where near what I was produced on the lastest one. Just like in modelling you progress improving as you go, it all takes time and practice.

Bingo!
a well mapped model can be made to look anyway you would like. A well made model can be killed by its mapping more so than by its textures. The textures are always limited by the mapping on the model, and by the details built into the model.

So Kreeargh,

How have you been doing on you texture work?
have anything to so yet?

Even if it is a checker board model to check the mapping would work

Oh yeah, for those who have not seen it yet

Agreed.. mapping is usually the thing that makes texture work difficult as well..

So you need something simple like Paint, but something that supports layers?  I'll see what I can do.. there's a couple that come to mind..

I have tryed several programs but the tasks involved are more than my short term memory can deal with. Ms paint was the program i teached my self to use same with m6/sfced program and max 4- gmax.

Edit Laters all im done with modeling  for a while and other tasks real life is more an issue to me than a crappy part time hobby that I am not good at.

Taking time off to deal with real issues is a time honored experience around here. I would have no respect for you if you did not do it, as that is were you shoulod be spending your time first, as you said this is just a hobbie. Who said you were not good at it, you have always made good meshes.

Then do this.. there's a few guys that mesh, and release untextured meshes.

That kind of stuff would be great for guys to learn to map on.  Just release them as is, where is.. enjoy or not.  As for the "female perspective", if this hobby made money, my wife would be all over it like a dirty shirt.  Because it's a hobby that doesn't make money, I catch crap when I'm too far outside normal times for getting up/going to bed.  So staying up late to texture usually means catching it the next morning,    But family should always come first.  So take some time, and release or not in whatever state works for you, or don't release for a while.  Just do this for you, or don't do it as long as its for you.

Think we'll still be here for a couple more years at least if you need to walk away for a bit as well.. :)  I walked away for a bit as well a while back, and am still not back at the level I was doing things at way back when.  I used to work on at least five or so ships a night, now I'm lucky if I open one.  Just the way of things these days with my "honey-do" list...

I have done this in the past but negitive results , my stargate Atlantis model is one that MANY say they made it for their mod. I made that model for the Freelancer game. Then a bro threw textures on it  and it was in the mod. OK by me,  why not upload to battle clinic  let others enjoy it since the mod is done.  THAT was a bad idea.  My mesh has been in MANY mods since then Not 1 has asked.
If there was a way i could show and upload my work but prevent theft i have 50 or more Gmax All scifi models that i would upload. Hell the entire Dark empires trek mod models are still online though now renamed and sorted as pack models , my work has been replaced ?? who cares . Boo hoo Endless fun it was frak the frak ! This is the a Fact mesh do not get any glory texture skill does!   What ever its all about i will give but i am sick of those who take and dont credit !

well as long as it is a a poll and not a toll...

saucer- good
secondary hull- like it
Sensors- think I would go more oberwhatever think more phase array in a housing than dishes everywhere
Enigines- under saucer and attached to secondary hull constellation class in design
