My first ship...
« on: January 07, 2011, 01:34:23 am »
Thanks to FoaS I am now going to try my skillset at modeling,

I would also like to mention a few others that helped me in making this decision..
[Klingon Fanatic for pushing me towards FoaS, GAFY, Starforce2, Tus-XC and Marstone...all with great advice]

Please offer any and all comments/suggestions as you see fit to help me thru this learning curve...
Just keep in mind (I have never done this before and I am a little nervous) my vocabulary for artistry is not up to par with yours by any-means and I sometimes need to be shown several different ways to get something done right to understand it.

I have tons of questions and I am sure most of them will be dumb to you, but you people do this in your sleep  ;)

So...for my first question..is there a particular color I should start modeling with that is easy on the eye's for hours on end?

and this is my first saucer with the help of FoaS.

You've definately gotten the right shape. Color doesn't matter, as eventually the model will be textures (way later down the pipeline, dont worry about it for now). Pick a model color that will let you see it in the viewport well.

Keep an eye on the tutorial thread in the next few days. I'll be having some fun.

Don't worry about the vocabulary you will find that different programs call it different things as so will the people that picked it up the same way you did. as long as one side can get their point across it really doesn't matter to much what you call it. In my personal experience things are called "cuss words" when it is going wrong, "what is does this do" when experimenting and "look what i did" when it comes out right.

Questions are never dumb, answers can be though, as for colors makes sure they are not bright or to contrasting and all are good. If you stare at them for a minute and close your eyes and still see a after image then they are probably to bright. A good example for to much contrast is white on black, like the forums defualt colors, you stare for a minute close your eyes and you can still read the words, yet the yellow doesn't always show or is fuzzy.
People always said they wanted the government to listen to them and now the government is listening, taking notes and names...and coming to see you soon!

America-Not the land of the free anymore...
Its the land of the freeloaders

Remember the axiom of big government bureaucrats: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. When, finally, under the crushing weight of taxes and regulation, it stops moving, subsidize it.
