There are always possibilities....

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, I figured I'd resurrect the Kelvin, using the Resurrection herself for parts.

Very nice. I liked the basic design of the Kelvin, but the JJTrek nacelles and other features were not my favorite . . . but it looks very good with the TMP features.

Because the Kelvin only has one nacelle in her design, I decided to extend the length of the nacelle on this ship, so in concept she'd have more warp coils, to sustain higher warp speeds for longer durations.  I also redid the torpedo launcher layout.  Unlike other Connie based ships, the launcher below the saucer is a single shot fore and aft, and another forward launcher is located below the deflector.

I also created a new neck.  I love the way I built the neck for the Resurrection, but I knew it didn't look right on this ship, so I made a new one.  Although this new one I feel is a little thin, so I might make it thicker, but if I do, I'll make the nacelle thicker as well.  I'm also considering thickening the nacelle as well, to house bigger warp coils.

Thoughts.

My feeling is that the front of the neck needs to come forward more, making it longer on its X-axis. BUT, i could be wrong.

Maybe, but I don't want to make it too too long in that respect.  However, I'll go over the neck again and consider it.

Fury, after thinking it over and looking at the model, you're right.  I'm making changes to the neck's length.

It was the right thing to say.  I'll post some updated shots later on, with a side profile shot.

Ok, here are some updates.  As you can see the lower neck is thicker and longer now.  I thickened up the nacelle, mainly cause with the thicker neck, the nacelle was too thin for it to rest on.

I also made the upper neck connecting to the engineering hull.  However, after looking at a picture of the actual Kelvin, I might try and design some sort of connecting junction, so it doesn't look so plain.  Also, I might modify the forward upper torpedo launcher to integrate into the new neck.

So this ship isn't completed yet, but somewhat close.

I thought the kelvins deflector hull rode fairly low on the saucer, iirc, if you are trying to replicate that you may want to place the launcher on top, if not..ignore me lol.

Ok, I'm stumped.  Where the upper connecting neck meets the saucer.  Should I just leave it as is?

Actually, that tiny little lip on the front of the connector looks fine to me. I could try for a full step, but I'm not sure how well it would work out.

I did an inward recess on the front and back of the upper neck, just to give it some character.  The upper part of the neck has that same lip, but it's hidden by the engineering hull.

Yeah, I'm not sure how a full step would work out either.  I've thought about it.  Maybe I should just leave it as is.  If I do, should I add anything else to the model?

I used the Resurrection for parts, so the polycount is already beyond what the game can handle.  I could do polychopping I suppose.  I'm estimating this thing is going to be roughly in the neighborhood of 18k.

As for textures, I'm contemplating on trying to map this one myself.

my excelsior is 16k. It's not outrageous for the game (unless you are running multiplayer, or are facing a fleet of em)

My main concern is how to map the warp engines and engineering hull.  I've got a basic idea of how to map the engineering hull, but the warp engines, those scare me.  Saucer and bridge, not so much.

you can sorta cheat with LN-style nacelles. theres a vid somewhere I did where I mapped a set of LN-styles.

I've seen LN style engines mapped in a number of ways.  Just that I've seen the finished product, and since I have very little experience in UV Unwrap mapping, well, you get the idea.

Ok, this is going to be a hell of a lot tougher than I thought,  The seem doesn't want to agree with me, and I can't get it to go directly along the centerline of the hull.

I don't think you do, as personal information should not be necessary for that account. Sounds more like a redirecting scam that is looking for a Cel number to txt spam and link to.

I assume that's why you've not been on messenger lately? I'd sign up for gmail, personally..no spam..also, I don't think you actually need a hotmail account for msn any more.
