Ballmer announced last Friday that he is in the process of unloading up to 18% of his Microsoft shares. He's already sold 12%, for $1.3 billion. "Even though this is a personal financial matter, I want to be clear about this to avoid any confusion," Ballmer says in a statement. "I am excited about our new products and the potential for our technology to change people's lives, and I remain fully committed to Microsoft and its success."

Windows Phone 7 is about to come out (or just has) and is supposed to be Microsofts iPhone/Android "killer" which should drive up MS share prices yet Ballmer is divesting of 30% of his holdings?   Doesn't sound like confidence or commitment to me.

Supposedly it is to diversify his holdings.  Shouldn't that be done when the share price is peaked?  If you truly have the confidence in the stock diversification shouldn't be an issue.

That was 12% the other 18% if it gets sold at the same average price brings it up to 3.25 billion for the full 30%.  As the article states this isn't the first time he has sold off part of his stock.
