There is no FAQ page. We probably could have used one as of about 6 years ago though, lol. Perhaps people are referring you to child forums (e.g. The How Tos of the D2... etc)

how to become a moderator, just a lot of how to's...

I can tell you how I became a moderator and at least one other followed the same general path though he went straight to Global Moderator.

I read the Engineering forum due to my interest in Science and Technology.  When people had questions that I knew the answer to I helped them out.  When they were annoying and provocative I didn't flame them back I either ignored them or was polite in response.  In time (years) the administrators decided that Engineering needed someone to be its specific moderator as none of the admins or moderators really monitored it and I was nominated and asked to take the position.  In time they decided to up me from just moderating one forum to a Global Moderator with the specific task of Engineering moderator in addition to Global moderating authority where needed.  At no point did I seek out moderating authority.

The various moderators here to my knowledge didn't seek it out they were asked after they were seen to be what the admins wanted in moderators already.  Personally I tend to adhere to the concept that "He who seeks power and authority are the worst to have it".

Why do you want moderating authority and why do you think yourself worthy of it?

Oh...

Please don't get the wrong idea, I'm not seeking to be anything.....I just have alot of questions..well really too many questions :)

It's like in scuba diving, unless you ask you will never know..I can search and read till my eyes go blurry and my butt gets sore, but unless I ask the questions from the real authority's,  how can I tell the truth from the trash?

My Instructor told me (when I asked) that it was a long and hard road to get where he was, his trials and errors, ups and downs.
It made a very interesting point about commitment and dedication. and after 12 years and 2000+ dives I became an Instructor.

So using the power of the questions I have become very knowledgeable, I have been playing SFB since the beginning and I mean the beginning...I don't think there is any game that can really hold my attention and imagination as well as SFB.
I have purchased all the games since SSI's The Warp Factor, (I have never pirated or copied a disk) I have just recently reinstalled SFC1 on my laptop and started playing again, that's why all my post are mostly for SFC1. I have never dabbled in modding, models, scripts....nothing, I guess you could call me a puritan :),  but now I want to expand my knowledge and start doing that, so I must ask questions, I want to join a group and be a playtester,  So I need to ask questions...who, what, when, where?
I just wanted to know what you guys went through to become a moderator.
nice quote too..but it does not really apply...but this works.

Keenness is most welcome in almost any form.

My suggestion is to get on our TeamSpeak server when some of the guys are on and  get the low down on the stuff you're interested in.

I also am an old SFBer. (started playing in '86)

I'm kinda busy right now, but now is a good time to get in on things. Definitely.  There are more like us that will come out of the woodwork in time. And they will...

I'd recommend a chat with 762 if he has some time.

I have purchased all the games since SSI's The Warp Factor,

Ah, I remember The Warp Factor (had it on my Apple II+).  It was the program that caused all the copyright problems that delayed SFB becoming a computer game for so long. (SSI didn't get permissions to use the SFB rules, or any of the other stuff).

Welcome, keep asking the questions, people here are good at answering or pointing you to the right place.

I became a moderator because no one else in the moderators knows much about 3D - they needed someone to handle the artists ;)

Naw - best thing to do 'round here is to just be empathetic - understand that there are people on the other end of the Internet (you'd be surprised how many people forget that).

careful as to how you use the term handle!
I had to take a airline trip recently and I don't like how they handle things in the security area anymore, at least until they offer free diner coupons
Have not played SFB in years, got the orginal box set when it first came out, man has that game changed and expanded.
People always said they wanted the government to listen to them and now the government is listening, taking notes and names...and coming to see you soon!

Its the land of the freeloaders

Remember the axiom of big government bureaucrats: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. When, finally, under the crushing weight of taxes and regulation, it stops moving, subsidize it.

You were already pouring oil on troubled waters.  It made sense for you to have the authority to go with it.

That was also a positive in your favour but not quite enough by itself.
