Installing Models?
« on: November 29, 2010, 01:10:10 pm »
Hi guys..

I have noticed a lot of models for EAW and OP floating around. I like (the attack voyager) but my question is....
If I download it or any of these files and install them, can I play on GSA, Dyna or GR with them? or does everyone else have to have them?

also are there any detailed instructions as to how to install these files so I don't mess up my current install?

Have you downloaded and installed the OP+4.0 shiplist? You are going to need it very soon and it has a large number of custom models already installed.

The answer is kind of...

If your shiplist file matches the other guys you are playing with then yes you can play in those places, if not then you will be booted from match.
mods like firesouls can be and usually are used for Dyna games, but if you change his defualt list the same thing happens.

So you have to play with ppl who have the same modifications or just do it to your single player game.

Installing ships is another topic and I pretty sure answered some where in this section of the forum
People always said they wanted the government to listen to them and now the government is listening, taking notes and names...and coming to see you soon!

America-Not the land of the free anymore...
Its the land of the freeloaders

Remember the axiom of big government bureaucrats: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. When, finally, under the crushing weight of taxes and regulation, it stops moving, subsidize it.

If you want to just use the "new" models in place of the "stock" models on your computer, here's a quick and easy thing I do...
  • Take the "stock" model folder of the ship you want to replace and rename that folder with the word ORIG added (so you can restore it later) Example - rename the "fca" folder as "fcaORIG"
  • Place the new ship's (example - "Yorktown Class") folder in the Assets\Models folder
  • Rename the new ship's folder as what it is replacing. (Example - "Yorktown Class" folder becomes "fca" folder)
  • Step into the new ship's renamed folder, and rename the *.mod and the *_brk.mod as the ship it is replacing ("Yorktown.mod" becomes "fca.mod", "Yorktown_brk.mod" becomes "fca_brk.mod")
  • Game will now use the new model as it would the old.  Specific to individual PCs; players can have different models than each other.

Using this method, what you see on your pc will be what you want it to look like but other players will see the stock models. I've replaced about half of the Feds and Roms in my OP this way.

For error free fun just replace stock models with new one yes your limmited to a few but its error free. Just rename the stock model folder you want to replace and add new model with same folder name and .mod name. Hardpoints may be off but the model should work.
Time for life!
