Link to full articleResearchers sequencing Neandertal DNA have concluded that between 1 and 4 percent of the DNA of people today who live outside Africa came from Neandertals, the result of interbreeding between Neandertals and early modern humans.
This does go against some of the earlier findings. Earlier genetic tests were of mitochondrial DNA which were different. So it would appear that there is no direct female line of descent from Neandertal. Also Neandertals had different Y Chromosomes from Sapiens so it would appear that the direct male line has also been broken.
