wow, that is way over the top. don't call a person an idiot for personal preference. you wouldn't do it, that's fine, but that doesn't make him and idiot. the modern primitive movement is not about rebelling, it is about identifying yourself with the small percentage of the population who shares the same views and making themselves very visibly identifiable as part of that group that rejects the modern precepts of socially accepted appearances. the scarification on his face and tattoos and piercings all have roots dating way back to our primal selves. not only are these badges of identification, they are rights of passage and self tests. they are very klingon in fact, think of the gauntlet, if you can stand the pain then you are recognized as an adult. here it is a similar thing, people test themselves through pain and identify with the fringe of society that also rejects the "clones". (yes i know this stuff as i wanted to write a book about it years ago, i may still do it). to most of these people, the idea of wearing a suit and tie everyday and wasting away in a cubicle until you die is so fundamentally alien that they have to reject it out of hand to claim their own individuality. i myself wear two 00gauge tunnels in my left ear, used to have 1 of the same size in the right ear but it migrated out and i have a split lobe. i also have a full back piece tattoo. i did these things to make myself fit more into what i felt was my ideal self image. i am not really rebelling, i don't hate myself and i really don't feel like i am an idiot but a lot of people balk visibly at my "modifications". i don't mind as those are the people i want to disassociate myself with.
remember that people everywhere do the same thing. they try to identify themselves with a group and dress to fit into that group. think about that the next time you wear that football jersey for your favorite team, or the next time you go to church dressed up in your "sunday best". it is all part of the same form of self expression
now that being said, there are people who take it too far. there are also people who do this kind of thing not as a right of passage but as a form of self hatred and self loathing. low self esteem leads to the breaking down of the "self" and recreating oneself to fit into what they perceive as an ideal form of themselves. like any group of people who rebel, there is a lunatic fringe.
Oh don't get me wrong, I personally don't care for tattoos. But I don't think people that get them are idiots, far from it. I just don't want to give just anyone some kind of identifying mark, in which to possibly set me up. That and I'm happy with the way the great spirit in the sky made me.
But dude, having implants like this guy, put in, with out medical attention is idiotic. The risk of infection is too great.
I'll give you a case in point. My niece and nephew uhm in law, have this half assed Tattoos all over their bodies, they couldn't clean themselves up now without an act of god himself. And then they complain, because no one will hire them. Tough sh*t. Take the bone out of your nose, put on a long dress or dress shirt, cut your hair, and then maybe you can have a job where you see the public.
the whole thing with pain as a right of passage is kind of odd though, I'll agree. You don't have to put yourself through pain to prove you are an adult, Pain comes to you , because you are an adult. The only good thing about that kind of pain, is no one can take it from you, It is yours till the day you die.
