Startrek TAS
« on: June 25, 2010, 01:37:13 pm »
So I have been caught up in allot of ideas lately, comics sort animated clips.. but all where inspired from a thread on http://www.scifi-meshes.com..

It was basically a Ent ERA cartoon idea...  (they are doing great work)

I wanna do better

And started a short story, thats a bit of a secret for the time being, but it starts with a crashed Galileo shuttle TOS on a moon, to that end you need to start with a shiny new one  :)

To that end, ask all the questions you like for now, but I would like to render bake these models so they look like TAS ships for SFC..  8)

I have a question though... how do the doors open on the shuttle???

anyone know?

I ask because the shuttle has a hollow centre, waiting for chairs and sh*t but i dont know how the doors fold away

input appreciated  ;)

Surprised you had never been to Sci-Fi Meshes before. Been a memeber there for Years but I don't post much mostly just a lurker.

The doors on the shuttle were actually 3 pieces. it was split at the bend in the hull about were you have the line that goes forward from the wing area. The lower half was a ramp that would fold down to be a platform that extended just past the warp engines so that people entering or exiting the shuttle would not walk on them. The upper half was split into two doors that were pocket doors; They would slide into pockets inside the hull.

EDIT:
Went back and watched The Galileo Seven Episode the bottom part is correct but the upper slide inward and then to the sides instead of into a pocket. If you need them I can see if I can get screenshots from episode for the doors and internal arrangement. The episode "The Galileo Seven" is in the first season, if you have Itunes they were on sale for the series with the new graffics for 12 USD a season. I bought all three

EDIT AGAIN:
Argh!!!!
still watching the episode should have finished it first! Anways they do slide into a pocket. They push inward split to the left and right into a pocket

People always said they wanted the government to listen to them and now the government is listening, taking notes and names...and coming to see you soon!

America-Not the land of the free anymore...
Its the land of the freeloaders

Remember the axiom of big government bureaucrats: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. When, finally, under the crushing weight of taxes and regulation, it stops moving, subsidize it.

Gah, I haven't been to SFM in months. I hate their new layout - takes forever for me to get anywhere.

The Tas shuttle or the orignal as for how they open? Tas i recall slideing from side to side simmler to the doors on the enterprise. The orignal i belive split at the hull break the smaller lower section was the steps and the top lifted up?  I need to watch Tos agian to make sure on that also. :P

Truth be told, I'd rather do something set during TMP, but thats my own opinion.

Well me and my bro are currently having a brain storming session over the story and the era..

The general theme of which starts as follows.

Backstory

2 x shuttle mission sent to a rogue moon.
Mission inerrupted, and their main ship attacked by a rom bop
Shuttles forced to take evasive action to enter the atmosphere of the moon.
one of the shuttles explode as they hit the atmoshpere the other flys through the explosion to crash land on the moon.
2 x survivors of the shuttle Lt Corvy and Ens Davies.
16hrs pass, no sign of their ship or a rescue.
They start to explore their surroundings, they find another crash site in a crater.
Too much debris for the other shuttle. Its definately a federation ship but the configuration is unusual.

The ship will turn out to be a miranda class from the TMP period this is something me and my bro discussed at the weekend.

We have already planned allot of detail into the story but that is under wraps for now, if anyone  wants to help or have input please just ask.

on a side note, the shuttles textures should be done soon enough, and I will convert it to .mod for release.  :) ( then need to model the entirior for the comic, before moving onto

other props.  :)

Let me know when you get to Character stuff :-). I'm not a very good organic modeller but I LOVE to rig :-)

AHHHH the things you learn about MAT's in max, glows have to be a seperate face and completely seperate object in this case  ;)

Oh well...

Need to re work the mat's but i have them down  ;)

I applied UVW's to the rendered maps on V'Ray..  thats the issue

They don't need to be separate objects....

It does in this case...

there is no option for an illum map, when you have created an FALLOFF map under VRAY ;)

Well not that i can see..

Input appreciated.. I have a work around but would rather keep it simple for render baking later on  :)

Can you post a screenshot of your scene (ie: viewport)?

If you don't mind going through the Effects route or Video Post, You can make it work with a single material instead.

EDIT: ah, see VRay... not too familiar with it

http://www.toxiclab.org/tutorial.asp?ID=60 a tutorial on Video Post Glows

Truth be told I've always found it easier to render a scene with its various passes intact, then take the shot into photoshop and do post stuff in there (ie: Bloom, Bokeh, and Glows).

Yeah..

I would like to do it that way and throw it through some photoshop filters.... but i kinda wanna see the effect when i hit that render button on each pass, at each angle there and then, and keeping all effects..

Once I have the Mat down, it will be done for the rest...  so fiddle now and get it right..  ;)

Thanks Fury  :)
