My best attempt as a Sovereign Nacelle....
« on: May 06, 2010, 08:01:53 am »
Making the front end was a complete bi**h, and I know I still didn't get it right, but this is the closest I'll be able to get to it.

Good Start.

I would add a few more loops on the front angles to round it out some more.

I actually deleted a few polys in the front to get that shape.  I was using the CG Sovereign as a reference.

Id say its a very good start. Trouble might be you are using a reference that is to high poly. Heres are some pics of the RD sovi's necelle.

I used RD's Sovereign as a starting reference before, , and even used RD's Sovereign nacelles on the Chabot Refit, but it lacked the detail I needed for trying to recreate the shape, and that's why I used CG's Sovereign.  Regardless I still can't recreate the shape in the same manner that others have done.

My best attempt at a TMP Connie nacelle...
I'm gonna finish this one, but I'm not gonna make it to canon.  Don't ask me what the poly count is, I didn't keep track.

I've never tried making a connie2 nacelle: it always looked difficult to me. Well done!

Trust me, it is difficult.  But I know you can make one a lot better than I can.

More of my TMP-like Connie Nacelle....

Like I said, I'm not going for canon.  But did some more work, and I must say, this already looks like a Connie warp engine.

Nearly there with my nacelle...

The best part of making this model is that now I can make variants of the nacelle should I choose to.  I'm gearing up to remaking my Resurrection from scratch, so this nacelle will end up being used on the ship.

There is something to be said for having the skill to replicate another person's design.

The WZ-42 nacelles. And they're semi-canon as all I really did was remove the middle divider on the front grill and replace the side intakes and aft fins.

If anyone is going to learn how to make warp engines, the Connie types are the ones to start with as they are deceptively complicated. Once those are mastered, other engines (and one's own designs) are a lot easier. I've certainly gotten a lot of mileage out of them myself.

Centurus, you seem to have figured out the secret to building them, which is in separate sections that are merged together.

*takes bows*  Thank you, thank you.  Miles, the beauty part about having saved practically every step of making this is that I can change around the components if I want and make somerhing different.  In fact, I'm thinking of doing that later on.  But I've decided, when I remake the Resurrection, I'm gonna use this mesh.  It's gonna push the poly count way over the limit, but this is my personal ship we're talking about.  Anyone who moans about the poly count can suck my plasma exhaust.  MUAHAHAHA!!!!

And WZ, yep.  I took your warp engines and dissected them into 5 main components, and kinda started from there.  Not sure if I did it the most efficient way, but you can't argue with results.

Fair enough

You know, you should come up with something that might look good as a bussard for this nacelle, and I can try and make it.

If you use camtasia, you can have it export right to youtube. The uploading process doesn't work, but it creates the Mp4 file anyways. That should cut down on some size. Also Don't use the full screen resolution.
