I was wondering if anyone has info re: a MS product.
« on: April 09, 2010, 12:32:53 am »
Hoi Folks,

Sorry, I have been away for so long.

For the last few years I have been working with GSM devices serving as modems for computers, mostly Windows XP, Vista, and Win 7; as well as a few Mac OS's. On the Windows machines from XP sp1 on, there are IPv6 Transition Technologies installed as network adapters in Device Manager, when "Show Hidden Devices" is selected in the "View" pull down menu; note, they can been seen on Vista, and, 7, but, not on XP with any service pack installed; as far as I know.
First question is, "How can I see the status of 6 to 4 Adapter, ISATAP (Intra-site Automatic Tunnel Address Protocol,) and Teredo Tunnelling Pseudo Interface on XP?

My next question is, "If Teredo is not causing the errors with the other two, then what other known hardware, or, software can conflict with them?"

Last question for now is, "How does Mac, and, Linux handle a connection issue such as having to communicate to a computer that is unable to use an IPv6 address when your Mac/Linux is assigned an IPv6 address? Part two, are there any known issues with those solutions?

These IPv6 drivers keep showing up as problems on Windows computers with Vista, and 7, quite shore that they are acting up on XP but have no idea how to check on them.

Take care,

Hoping to fly a starship, or even paddle a canoe/kayak soon, drb

Well, last time I thought about IPV6 was entertaining it for Space Navy Control. Two choices as I see it: skip it entirely as it is currently pretty rare, or write two whole network layers, or use some netlib to take care of it. Ugh.

I'll reboot in my XP partition later to see if I can find an answer to your first question. I think I remember seeing that info on XP somewhere.

Let's start with a starship and see how we do - gonna have real good reason to fly again soon - keep yer eyes on the forums for somethin bbbig!  (I got a bunch of website stuff on the go in preparation)

It is kinda funny-backwards.  ;D

I was hoping to have a new server ready this weekend but it did not happen. Hopefully I'll get one set up in the next week or two and get you geared up to play.

Hoi Bonk,

Good, a server would go well with a new, well used, but new to me, computer. One of the guys I work with has an extra desktop that he wants to give me, the old Raft here was put together 7 years ago now, still going strong but falling behind the times. Might need a monitor and keyboard/mouse; and I am toying with the idea of using Linux, at least if something goes wrong with Linux I can look up solutions on-line and actually find the info I am looking for; unlike the the above mentioned MS products. Before I can get the computer though my buddy from work has to clear space to dig it out and then hook it up to test it, could be a couple of weeks yet, as getting rid of the computer is part of a much larger clean up and renovating project. I will let you know when it shows up, and yes I will be full of question, no doubt.

Take care,

drb

OK way off topic here, but I just watched this and if you haven't seen it you must. Then we must discuss.

I hope your connection can view it. If not I'll download somehow and send. Or maybe they have it at the library.

*Edit* 30:42 (I get it! In this context I get it!  :multi:) Agreed, a very well articulated proof of what many traditions have had to require a "leap of faith."

Imagine if the heart wanted to express its passion for the Samba, and changed it's beat to reflect it's identity, the body would expire. Yet when what the Buddhist call the intellectual ego expresses itself, most are unable to see the changes that happen to the body, and one's ability to function effectively in one's environment when it is a gradual process. For the relative few that can slice through the confusion, be it pain, or whatever, having had a massive life challenge such as unlearning and then learning a method of using mind and body that had not been done, in some cases since the person was as young as 3 years old, they have a realization that what was gained by returning to wellness is a blessing greater than what was lost.

I am very pleased to hear that balance was given status as its own sense right from the start. Something I had difficulty with when confronting academic instructors re: balance as sense onto itself, the response, was it was part of hearing, end of discussion. There are many methods out there that, in practice, work with balance as part of the whole, some of which we have discussed a bit, but now we have a new frame of reference, and I think you uncle's work would be worth reviewing, as far as I can tell he was assuming what you are now accepting as a real phenomena. Then again we should try a squadron of DN's first and see how we do.

It was related to me that Magma was in town, married, either first child, or second on the way. My situation has me moving like a landlocked Green Turtle climbing over boulders, so I have not reached out yet, debt has a vice hold of me for now, but, it is a slowly diminishing issue.

Again, take care,

drb

Below the edit window is a link to "Additional Options", click on it.  Below it will appear "Attach:" with a box for text and a button labeled "Browse", click the button.  This allows you to browse your HD to find the image, click on the right image, click open.  Do NOT try to preview a post with an uploaded image as it doesn't work.  Then you just click the "Post" button.

Hope that helps.

Oh and since this is engineering, check this out:
http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2010/04/drag-and-drop-attachments-onto-messages.html

I think I might read up on that and see if I can do it on canada-east today.

But I'll reboot in XP right now to investigate drb's original question, if a little late. It is still of interest. I suspect the info is provided on an "ipconfig /all" ? (as it is in vista)

Ah yes, with a little googling and trials in my XP install it is as I expected.

First I tried an "ipconfig /all" and only got IPv4 info.

So Installed the IPV6 protocol on my ethernet adapter as outlined in this FAQ:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/network/cc987595.aspx

Then once installed as a protocol on the adapter an "ipconfig /all" gave the expected additional info.

Also I came across this command: "ipv6 if"

Which gives a bunch of info.

So of course I tried a "ipv6 /?" and I leave the results of that to your investigation/utilisation. I'll have to look at this stuff eventually too.

(found on this older page: http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-1055984.html)

And the horse's mouth (on this platform): http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/network/bb530961.aspx

Hoi Folks,

I did go to additional options, but my eye did not pan below the line under the 3 option boxes; it has been awhile, that is for shore.

However, that drag option looks nice.

I sent the cbc doc link to Dad. He and Iris, it will provide them a better idea than my description of the MRI, so thank you for the link.

Sorry, marstone, that it is blocked, wasn't it that sort of thing that got Google to pull out of China?

Thank you Bonk, i will check it out.

Take care,

drb

Don't go making it too easy.  If you do all the threads will be image heavy and I won't be able to read them.   ;)
