Easter is very musical for me. I would have made a good pagan.

;) ;D ... but seriously,

There was an alternative theater here that used to show The Last Temptation every Easter Sunday, it was an event. I miss it, the theater is closed now. All the enlightened counter-culter personalities would be there. Hmmm, perhaps its for the best we don't gather anymore.

The temptation to take up the Aztec religion and use it as an excuse to "honour" annoying people by sacrificing them is strong some days.

Oooh, speaking of Easter I saw this really cool show on Tahitian ruins and Polynesian cannibalism:

How dare you call ELP annoying! Let alone Pete and the soundtrack to TLT. Shame. All that music is dear to my heart.

Actually I didn't say that.

You forget I'm on dialup.  I use FireFox with flashblock so I can skip flash videos.  My response was purely inspired by the "pagan" reference not the video (which I haven't seen).

Its a Christian Holiday which appropriates some pagan imagery.  eggs, rabbits, chicks, ect... can also be used to symbolize rebirth which is kind of appropriate for a holiday which commemorates the resurrection of Christ.

sorry, but they appropriated a lot more than just imagery. a lot of christian holidays are held on past pagan holidays. this was done intentionally to try to convert pagans early on. the calculation of the date of easter is based entirely on the pagan holiday it took over. the pagan holiday that easter took over was the fertility holiday ostara. if you google "easter pagan holiday" you will find a ton of articles discussing the take-over of pagan holidays by christian holidays, easter included.
while christians celebrate easter, it is also the pagan holiday of ostara. it is not an original holiday.

Sorry, have to disagree strongly.  Ostara is the spring equinox always on the equinox (only move in a three day block).  Easter is based on a lunar calender for the day similar to how the Jewish calender works.

Ostara has nothing to do with bunnies and eggs.  Easter has nothing to do with bunnies.  Eggs were used by being blown out and filled with graffiti to represent the empty tomb.  The bunny was added in the last hundred or so years.  Same with Santa he is newly added to christmas.

Now I will agree, some christian holidays were shifted alittle and some pagan ones were shifted some also as the cultures blended.  But Easter and Lent has been the way they are for a very long time.  And as for the Pagan holidays, it is anyones guess to what they really had associated with them.  The pagan holidays that everyone knows are new representations of what people assumed were holidays from the past.

Oh, sorry Nemesis. I did forget you are on dial-up. Friggin 2010 and we can't get coax and fiber run across the country.

I COULD get high speed.

The local cable company offers it (my parents have it about a mile away).  They however adjust the price by whether or not you subscribe to cable TV too and I don't (can't stand commercials) so the price is higher than I like.

The phone company keeps trying to push wireless on me but I don't LIKE wireless, not secure enough for my home.  The roaming wireless might be nice but they seem to all be based in Starbucks.  I find the smell of coffee distasteful so that isn't interesting.  Their "free" anti virus, firewall software etc isn't of interest.  I doubt that their "free help" in setting up your browser and E-Mail extends to Firefox and Thunderbird.  They also don't seem to want to tell what the price is after the "introductory" price expires.

The phone system substation is just over a block away so I COULD get DSL.  It has been a few years since I looked at that.  Their "support" web site was pure IE only.  A friend who had it informed me that it was Windows only (their software needed as they didn't use TCP/IP between your house and the substation).  Needless to say I wasn't interested in letting their software on my system or their installers touching my system.

I may get it when my current year of dial up ends (paid till the end of August) as my router with serial port died and can't be replaced.  The only machine I have that is old enough to support a serial modem is the Windows XP Dell (free from my former employer) and it stubbornly refuses to see both the internet and the local network at the same time so it won't share the internet connection with my other machines.  I could probably solve it but it is too annoying reestablishing the current setup between attempts.

Meanwhile when I REALLY need or want high speed I use my parents or the local libraries wireless with my netbook (Christmas present).  Dial up speed rarely bothers me.  Especially since most flash are annoying ads anyhow.

Bah, they always say that. And it is always plain old pppoe and just about any OSs default client will connect. It's just that is all they can manage for support - as limted by their staff and customers as determined by their market.

But I will always prefer cable, far superior. I'm getting reamed with the commercial package just so I can do what I always used to be able to do on a regular account. It costs $120/month - no tv or phone bundled in. Needless to say I watch all my TV online now as even with the commercial account I only get 1 mbit up. But I get 15 mbit down, way more than I need - plenty to watch tv online and run servers...

If the DSL switch is only a block away, then it might be worth it, but to be honest DSL is not enough of an improvement in my opinion to bother.

When I was on dialup, I eventually moved exclusively to noscript instead of flashblock. It allowed me to selectively block more stuff.

I was never able to actually confirm it as their web presence was IE only which I haven't used since v5.x messed up my system on an "upgrade".  I figured if their web page was so MS only I couldn't expect my Linux systems to connect either and if I had problems they would always blame Linux not their own service.

But I will always prefer cable, far superior. I'm getting reamed with the commercial package just so I can do what I always used to be able to do on a regular account. The last I checked the local cable company was moving on to capping total transfers per month and hitting you with extra charges for using what you were paying for.  I prefer a slower system that actually lets me USE it.

If the DSL switch is only a block away, then it might be worth it, but to be honest DSL is not enough of an improvement in my opinion to bother.

Pretty much definite as being that close.

Personally I miss the old "anyone can put up a BBS" days.  Now the cost to do something like Dynaverse is prohibitive to most people.

All the high speed services here explicitly prohibit (as of the last time I checked) running servers on the line.  By their definition if you want to run a server you MUST be a business.  The cable company was even probing my brother in laws home network and began making threats when they detected that one of his systems was a server version of Windows which he used at home but which wasn't an "online" server.
