Adding new ships in SFC1

I was thinking about adding new ships in sfc1, but in ShipEdit 2 you cannot add them because there is no New Ship option available, so i tried to add one manually, in sfbspc file, fixed what should be fixed and started SFC1.
There, the ship appears in the vessel library but if i try to play with it i cannot.
Why can't you add some more ships, rather than modifying the existing ones?

You cannot add new ships in SFC1, it don't work.

well then, if i cannot add new ones, why can i even change the ship names without the game to crash?

I am not a programmer, but I think changing an existing name, and adding a new one are different things in SFC1. The games allow for a certain number for each "class." In SFC:OP I think it is 200, but in SFC1 it is much lower and used up by the stock game. If it is possible, I have never found a way to do it and I think anyone here would be interested if you discover that it is possible. If you figure it out let us know, but I think it is fairly commonly known that this is a limitation to modding SFC1.

right.. at least i can edit existing ships to reach my expectations.
I have a question about hydran campaign. i started the campaign and played untill script 5/10 (youreIT.scr) i got the nineth one (trophies.scr) and after that i got the black hole mania which i cannot skip by moving in another territory. where are the other 4 scripts and how can i make them work? and in gorn campaign, in Muddy Waters, after i scan it, if i shoot it, the game crashes.

Actually, you can add ships to SFC1.  Someone (forgot who it was) showed me that you have to edit the shiplist file manually (with excell or access).  I haven't played SFC1 in a long time so I can't remember exactly how this works, but if you create a custom ship, you must select a "stock" ship, then the custom ship to your fleet.  Then you could swap to the custom ship and control it.  I beleive the custom ship will appear normally for AI players.  The system is not as good as SFC:OP or SFC3 but it is what it is. 

Again, I might be wrong on this so maybe someone else can varify this aswell.

i tried to add a new ship in Excell 2003, and none of the output extensions do not match, and i get a warning that if i save as the Unicode format, some data from the file will be lost.

Chris Jones did a mod for SFC1 and added a few more ships iirc.

but, what about at least change the names of the Ships? I mean i wanted to change the D6X ship (from sfc1mix) to DDX and i couldn't.
if i try to modify them manually the game will certanely crash.
Example: i changed the H-DWH ship to H-HB, 2 things happend.
1) i couldn't play the TechDD with the hydran
2) the game crashes when i select it in skirmish.
