acceleration bug in sfc1?
« on: March 29, 2010, 06:30:15 am »
i tried to make hydran technical destroyer, and i was unsuccesfull many times.
I was thinking:
1)edit my ship: put 55 mines and reduce it's speed by damaging the freighter. Didn't work.
2)Edit FQL to make it unmovable. Did not worked.
3(and last))change the acceleration.. since fighters have acceleration 15, i tried to change it, and set t firstly to 1000(max)
Tried. in 35 seconds the challenge was finished.
Than i observed that from 20(lowest i tried) to 1000 the acceleration is the same, only the time the ship gets to 31.0 speed is lower(on 1000 it gets to 31.0 in 1 second.)

Is this sort of a bug?
and why only 31.0? can't this speed be changed?
does it act the same in EAW/OP?
For everybody.. I have ICE CREAM.

I'm not sure about the technical test (some of them are pretty tough), but the speed 31 limit can't be changed in SFC1, EAW, or OP. The speed limit for all ships is something that was kept from Starfleet Battles. It's a good limit because if ships could go faster than that, there would be a lot of balance issues with plasma torpedoes and drones/missiles. I think it's also there as a guard to keep people from flying around at speed 40 and wasting their opponents time when they're not really fighting (in a multiplayer game).
