Topic: What is the goal in SFCOP?

i simply can't understand it's goal. I just.. lurk in the systems and get points, i get the same missions: Shipyard Defence/Attack ,Base/Asteroid Base defense/assault, Homeworld/Planetary Assault, Investigations, Convoy Raid, Patrol, Negotiations, Ambush The enemy, Distress Call. that's all of them and all i do is collect points to buy a specific ship or collect medals. in my case the goal is to buy an XCB or any other performant ship made by me..
My questions: Where are the other missions? i'm sick of the ones mentioned above!
What's the real goal of the game?
Why can't you get points on tutorials?

The goal of OP is really to add some more races and weapons for multiplayer use.  It is possible to add the EAW storyline campaign to OP.

The Goal here is to teach you how to play on the Dyna which this is very similar to and how much space can you conquer.You can also make up a persona a fictional character of yourself set in the 23C.

I would suggest to get the Enhancement Pack made by Pestalence as it has more addition to it.

Yeah, the specialized missions make the game a lot more fun. The EAW storyline adds special missions for the empire races, but OP alone will play the pirates special missions (but you have to play as a pirate cartel in a campaign for that to work).

But if the phasers were not coded for SFC 1 than why arent the models working? other than the extension used in OP (*.bmp) and (*.pcx) used in SFC1.. aren't these compatible?


PS.. please say why do you think the phaser is good.. maybe there are things i do not know about them.
i think G2 is good because i like playing with hydran weapons a lot and since i played the first time with ph G, i knew it was great. G2s are extended to 50.000 km range and they make quite some damage.

A modeler can correct me on this, but some models work for EAW/OP alone, and some work for all versions of SFC. I think it has to do with the illumination maps, which weren't present in SFC1.

I picked the phaser-1 because it is an all-around good weapon, and although phasers might not be as exciting as heavy weapons, they're very reliable. It's not as damaging as the ph-4 or ph-G2, but the ph-1 is something that most races have access to (especially past early era and on larger ships) . . . besides one of the monster ships in SFB, I don't think the ph-4 was used on any ships, but only bases. And the ph-G2 is nasty, but it's normally only in advanced era matches.

Hmmm.. you're probably right. I tried to copy the hcx model to sfc 1 but it couldn't load in shipedit 2. i managed eventually but when i started the game and chose the ship, clicked start and SFC encountered an error.
Um.. as far as i know, in sfc 1 phaser 4 was used on that sunglider monster SGS and in OP was used on that M-INT which i don't know in what category i should put in: monsters ,fighters, or ships..
But what i don't understand is: why is it so hard to destory a M-INT? i mean a plasma S barely did something to it's shields.
A suicide overload Fusion beam X2 made some damage but i was damaged as well. an ESG lance did the best job. from white shield brought it to a dark yellow one...


And speaking of ESG, many times i experienced a bug. after it "warmed up" the ESG went on , and after it's capacitor got depleted, there was that "ESGloo1.wav" that kept repeating in the background, sometimes really loud,and it got annoying. does anybody know how to fix it?
although i could delete the file.

Why Mauler doesn't work in 2X 3X or 4X? it just works with one to me..

That's right, I forgot about the Sunglider monsters. The M-INT (Juggernaut) has a forward shield with 60 boxes and IIRC, the game colors every shield that is bigger than 40 or so as white . . . so you could do twenty points of damage and still not see any visual change. Just keep hitting it, and don't let it get you.

I used to have the ESG sound loop bug too but not anymore. I think it may have been one of the things fixed in the 2552 patch. Which version of OP are you playing (you can check the version at the lower right part of the splash "loading" screen when you first run the game)?

The mauler uses the batteries of the ship for its power, so if you fire one mauler, it will completely drain the batteries, and you won't be able to fire a second until the batteries have recharged a little bit (the more power you free up, the faster they will recharge). Think of it has having two phasers on your ship, but the capacitor is only half charged -- even though one phaser might be ready to fire, you wouldn't be able to fire it until there is enough energy in the capacitor.

The front shield of the M-INT is indestructable. All other shields may be battered down, but your best bet is to get right behind it and go for the rear shield as it is the weakest and the Juggernaut has very little in the way of weapons facing that direction. Plus it turns like an oil tanker.

I would stick with phaser type 1s depending on which races you are playing if Federation always type1s.It isn't that hard to get take out one of those M-INTs just don't get to close fire from range as fighting plasma ship unless you are in bigger ship.

Well i use the 2.5.5.2 but the exe is SFCOP instead of StarfleetOP because in starfleetOP the fighters are not in the shuttle bay. anybody know how to fix that?

Well. 60 is not such a big shield. i mean i made a 4999 shield and i was het with all the charge of a KCN, and the shield was still white.
could they make a shield from 100 to 4999? i was thinking about a sapphire blue with 4 lines shield.

and a thing about shields, they can be destroyed very easy, but the respawn time is faster. why? they could at least last longer. green 2 lined shield +plasma F impact = pink(or reddish)shield

For the record, the G2 Phaser is probably the best phaser improvement out of all the phasers in OP compared
to EAW.  But this was merely a Taldren creation to make these "hypothetical" X2 ships seem like gods.  SFB
and Amarillo Design Bearuo have yet to release any information on what X2 ships are suppose to be like, but
they were specific on the notion that X2 ships must give X1 and General War ships a "fighting chance" if they ever agree to release an "offical" X2 vessel. 

As for the G2 Phaser, its actually better in some respects then a Phaser Type-4.  Its got excellent medium
range, can cause more damage than a Phaser-1 at medium range, and its extremely power effiecent.  I
came up with my own "house rules" that solve this problem with G2 phasers, but there is no way to change
the characteristics of a G2 phaser as its hard coded on the disk.

Just my opinion here on the whole list.

Yes I voted for the Phaser X.   But honestly only because of the extra power in the capacitor, I very rarely use an X phaser overloaded (maybe to finish off a crippled opponent, but any other use is usually a waste of power)

When I want to just relax and not think too much I'll set the Phaser Capacitor to 1/2.  The Capacitor will charge up and I have a little extra power stored up, but I'll never run out of Phaser power.  Usually though, I'll set the recharge rate to 1/3 or 1/4 and use the extra power for speed, reinforcement or Overloads.  When I'm tight for power I'll set the Capacitor to zero (after it's charged) make two combat passes, speed off and set it to full for thirty seconds before swinging around and coming in again (or going to plan B if another player is involved).

I really just like the extra power flexibility that the Phaser X capacitor gives, and was really hoping that when SFC3 came out that an expanded Phaser Capacitor was going to be an option.  Unfortunately they decided to be rid of the Capacitor altogether, and the power system in SFC3 was well... silly.

In a normal OP install built for Dynaverse/Mutiplayer gameplay, the Phaser 1s are I think the best, given how flexiable it is, damage, and roundness to it is a very good phaser for almost any situation and race.
In one of my solo spearate installs though I modified some ships to carry phaser 4s (to play mainly for those time I wish to just blow things up nonstop), and the result is quite shattering when you end up arming a FDNH instead with 14 Phaser 4s over 14 phaser 1s making any close flyby of just about any target lol

I find it almost identical to EAW with the exception of actually being able to play the pirates...

I have read a lot of post in regards to SFC4, STO, and reworking EAW to bring it up to speed with the new systems and all, but personally I would like to see a ranking/scoring system that's permanent..well as permanent can be in this industry and changing times.

I would like to be able to have a battle with and equal opponent, kill for kill so to speak... I really don't look forward to going online and having a battle with someone that has (oh 1000+ kills), every new patch and every new update to my 0-kills, that's kinda cruel and harsh.
It will eventually chase all the newcomers off and leave nothing but a handful of old farts who have fought each other so much, that now they don't bother to play, they just sit around and chat and complain about how there's no new players and how this game is going nowhere and
is dead. sort of a self serving purgatory..

personally I think everyone is to busy with scripts, models, coloring, art work, modding and music. then really trying to make the patches that will continue to draw in the new blood and even out the outcome.

Officially OP was designated as "Stand alone expansion" to EAW which is why it was still SFC2 instead of SFC3.  I believe it had to do with the contract which allowed them to produce Trek games not allowing another version of SFC at that time but allowing expansions.

Myself I would rather stick with the weapons the race uses in that era instead of equipping the ship with the most powerful.  As far as I know the G2 was never properly debugged and really (IMO) shouldn't be used as it is much more powerful than intended.  Most of the Taldren X-Ships are (IMO) too powerful, they are a quantum jump in power rather than an evolutionary step as they should be.

Several goals

1/ Expand EAW with new features (playable pirates)

2/ More options in online play

3/ For single player conquer the galaxy as in all the prior SFC games. 

The most fun comes from play against others. 

For local play the battlefest is my favourite (though I don't have local opponents any more ).  Most of the multiplayer "scenarios" can be used single player (the battlefest specifically).  It is good for practicing in a wide variety of ships (often ones you would never use otherwise). 

Play on the Dynaverse depends on whether it is set up as usual with victory conditions then achieving those goals by working with your team is crucial.  With the Dynaverse play of course comes posting here about your battles and about achieving those goals.  For an example of that look at this thread.

So what is the main site to play at? I have been on GSA and there is only 4 main players on all the time....
and all 4 say "stay away from dynaverse"....(whatever) (talk is talk).....what is the address for dynaverse and what do I need to install....to play.

everyone I keep playing only want X-ships (followed by the statement "Adv players always use Adv ships" and strut around like a peacock.)
almost everyone knows me by now, and knows I have been rocking SFC1...so to make that jump to 400BPV XCA or XCF ships is massive, all my tactics need to change... I have not yet had the misfortune of meeting a player with a custom ship loaded only with heavy phasers and I hope not because that is a cheesy kill...

The problem with the dynaverse is that the community has dwindled so much that there is almost never anyone on it, so most of your gameplay is going to be against the AI.  To get on the D2, you need to download the d2 client installer, the forge mission scripts, and if you want to visit Strayy's Tavern, you need to download his files at http://tavern.250free.com.  The dynaverse will not work right on vista or windows 7.  Unfortunately, GSA is pretty much the only place you can reliably find pvp without arranging with someone in advance.    I tend to agree with you regarding adv, as I feel the ships are overpowered, and tend to breed poor power management skills (the whole point of SFC is power management).  That said, I only go on on weekends, but you can rely on at least one person who hates adv.  I tend to prefer DWC's and smaller.

I second the non-advanced battles with Knight. The advanced-era matches get so old quickly, and the imbalance doesn't help (there are only a few ships I would fly). Unfortunately, most of the regular players (although there are exceptions, at least a few months ago) like to play *only* advanced matches.

It is hilarious to hear why they don't like playing more traditional matches. I remember one player complaining that the ships in the classic heavy cruiser match (F-CA, K-D7, etc.) aren't "real ships!" You can imagine what they thought of the 80 bpv matches  .

Well after 5 straight nights on GSA...I got to tell ya somthing...I'm done, I'm uninstalling GSA and I'm never going back...
Spider, Ghost, Chazzey...can eat doo and I don't care, they complain too much, pout and cry.......

like I said, they never tell you the rules, class of ship, teams....nothing... I take a C7...game starts....there in XCA's, then they laugh at you for (being dumb)....
I take a Dred....all of a sudden it 3 vs 1, everyone gangs up on the new guy....Boom dead....they set BVP like 400 but don't tell you the rules, 1 ship/2 ship...fighters/no fighters.....
Bottom line......like I said in my other post......there is no scaling, no fairness....and they don't care...heck they won't even care if I never show up again....that's the type of people they are...

Well to be fair, the general assumption is that unless a ship is explicitly forbidden its fair game.  Also, advanced ships are only available if the room host sets the era to advanced.  That should be your warning.  Finally, did you remember to set yourself to the proper team in the in game staging area (the letters next to your name)?  Granted, they knew that you are new, and they probably should have taken time to explain this to you.  I hope you won't let that bad experience sour you on the game.

The key word is ASSUMPTION following that train of logic, all these ship list's are for nothing..cause everyone taking XCA, XCF and XCB...all the other ships sux...so why have them...3 badarse ships for what 9 races......
and yes...I do check the team box...but my wingman never talks, never says who to go after...nothing...no teamwork..

No I love this game....no problem there I'll just play the AI, you do know you can make a very hard AI game, like 1xC9 and 2xC7 vs 1x rom Condor on admiral setting....your the rom.....tough, very very tough. lol

I hear you about all of this Advanced-era BS and the regulars who only like playing the same match over and over again. But GSA isn't dead (yet). It just takes a long time to actually get a good game. There are a few players who like the standard game with smaller ships/earlier eras, and playing a good 1v1 with one of these players is great. I'm going to try to be on next week, so maybe we could get a 2v2 going with one of this players (would you be interested Knight?).

Some of the players you mention act like aces but really are not. For example, one pilot in particular loves flying the Rommie XCB, but if you fly a Klink XCA and play the patient Saber Dance, you will never lose (whoops, I just read your post about a certain pilot and a D7W -- nice job).

The later models SFC 2 and up use light maps that extra coding in the mod file makes them incompatiable with SFC 1. Same reason SFC 2 ships don't work in SFC 3, and why SFC 3 ships have issues in SFC 2 versions. textures in PCX will work in SFC 1 and 2 the difference is in the color the textures can dispaly pcx is a 8-bit color bmp goes to 24-bit color, think of it as getting more shades of gray. True be told the game really only shows 8-bit colors, but the textures can be made as pcx or bmp. The textures work in all three versions, the game engine can use either formate

Those guys are still playing? They have been playing 400 ADV for years now and refuse to play anything else. The last time I played with them I took a R-PRA and tons of screws and was the last one standing. They wouldn't play with me after that...
