Online TV in Canada is dead.

The CRTC has ensured that all online TV sites outside Canada block us. Now our own TV station websites have stopped posting content. CTV, Global, Space... nothing out of any of them for weeks. I wonder if Discovery lives?

What happened? Did Rogers finally buy the government outright?

There really isn't much on TV these days all nothing but sequels and not much of Sci Fi/Fantasy.I never really have noticed though.

You know, I was thinking last night, all the Canadian TV staff including website techs are probably still in Vancouver. I'm hopeful that content will return once the Olympics are over. Once regular programming resumes on the "air", I assume it will online as well.

Plymouth, MI - February 18, 2010 - Stardock has pulled back the curtain on ImpulseTV, the latest major feature to come to the popular digital distribution platform, Impulse (www.impulsedriven.com). Hosted by Jason Ocampo, formerly of IGN and Gamespot, and Brian Clair, formerly of Avault.com, ImpulseTV is designed to let people see games and software as they really are in order to get a better idea of whether they want to buy it or even try out the software. ImpulseTV features hands-on walk-throughs, game tutorials and tips, spotlights and demos on AAA and indie games alike, unbiased and outspoken expert commentary and more.

"There's a lot of real gems out there that people would normally never hear about," said Ocampo. "With ImpulseTV, we hope to shed some light on great games - both famous and unknown."

Stardock continues its tradition of revolutionary digital download platform features with ImpulseTV, adding an innovative social networking aspect to the platform's latest feature. ImpulseTV easily finds online friends with similar gaming tastes and fans will be able to view who has downloaded games featured on an episode of ImpulseTV, chat with them, participate in discussions stemming from each episode, or decide to purchase the game – all from the ImpulseTV episode screen.

CEO of Stardock Brad Wardell states, "We will be constantly enhancing the features of ImpulseTV over the course of the next year. With ImpulseTV, fans obtain access to intelligent, honest conversations about games and everything they might need to make a decision about purchasing that game - everything from video, commentary, online friends who have that game, chats, discussions and more all in one. It really enhances the Impulse package as a whole and I'm proud of what the team has accomplished."

With Impulse, users purchase their game and can then immediately download and install the game through the Impulse client which seamlessly manages updates, community features and more. That sounds cool! I'll check it out.

Where I ended up last night was shopping for proxies in the US. I'm thinking I'll get either a proxy hosting plan or a dedicated hosting vpn setup in the US. Both still cheaper than cable TV (and less hassle).

Doesn't the CRTC realise this? Don't the Canadian networks realise that if they stop posting content all the viewers will just go elsewhere?

Currently the only new TV content available online in Canada is Survivor on Global and The Nature of Things on CBC. That is it.

I know there are new episodes of The Office out... why doesn't Global post them?

I know there are new episodes of Criminal Minds and Fringe out, why doesn't CTV post them?

I think they broke their CDN budgets - I bet they're in debt to Akamai.
