Heh, somewhere I have my low-poly federation models from when I thought about making a sins mod :)

FoAS- Sins is a nice little empire-builder game with just the right balance between inter-planetary combat and empire management. The recent expansion, Diplomacy, allows for negotiations with the AI and so forth, just be aware that pirates are drastically imbalanced right now. I'd recommend giving the demo a try if you haven't played it- it sold me on it and I've updated to the most recent patches.

Kreeargh- are you doing a Klink fleet to go with the K'tinga?

I've played Sins, without the expansion.  It is a fairly good RTS 4X (or RT4X) game.  I keep it updated and play it from time to time, although I really only have the patience for it once and a while.  Some Sins games can last longer than a Plasma Ballet, or half the time of a Civilization game.  And the fact that it is an RTS means its hard to find a stopping point for breaks, or sleep.

Overall it is a well balanced game, and I was looking to see if there was a Star Trek Mod for it.  There is a Star Wars Mod, but it requires the second Expansion (not the third) to play it.

Nice Klinks, downloaded and archived to CD.

Would Sins happen to mean Sins of a Solar Empire?

Looks very good. How is the Sins game?

The game is Sweet but i am bias as i cant stand fast paced theme games. The Engine is awesome it can display all sorts of texture stuff i never thought was possable for a game of this quality. I havent been through all the stock models but it looks like max stock model poly count is around 6k so alot is possable i think.
If you want shiney brass or crome it can be done in this engine, with the da dds map in the textures.  If you want to mod it the limmits are almost none {if you know what the heck you are doing that is} Most moding is text editing. Model import is an issue for the fact softimagexsi mod tool is what i call ass tool but each to your own on that subject. Good game to play and mod my opinion.   But it can get boring as any other game once you figure it out its old news for game play  and for most mods.

I know next to nothing about Trek except i have watched it all with no real life ideas about it  :buck2:. I do plan a fleet but its for the sins format thinking about stock  sins model replacements and how to fit the models in those slots avalable. I do have almost 300 trek models i have built to choose from to fit those slots its all a matter of what to fit where and what is less of an issue remaping and texturing for sins engine. Sins needs 1 map per model, 298 of my models have 3 or more maps per model major issues in my eyes  :D.

I am slowly makeing a mod for all 3 versions of sins, Trek but alt universe theme and early eras.  Based off of my experiances playing sfcop , so im sure it will suck but its all in ones prespective i guess  ;D  http://danmangames.com/forums/index.php?board=130.0

Well, a problem with the SINS game, is while there's great variety in ships, each ship has its own role.

Capital Ships Roles:
Planetary Bombardment
Carrier
Defensive Support
Battleship
Ship Disruption

Cruiser Roles:
Command
Combat
Carrier
Repair

Frigate Roles:
Scout
Combat
Anti-Fighter
Planetary Bombardment
Long Range Bombardment
Colonization

What ships do you assign for each role?  I'd hate to see the D-7 or the Constitution have to wait until you unlock the Combat Cruiser to show up, but by the same token, you can only have so many Capital ships, and is a Heavy Cruiser worthy of being a "Capital Ship"?

My thoughts on that  :D  Sins >
Feds Scout , single warp [i dont care about design or era]
Fed combat JJ, Tos, or Ent era enterprise design.
Fed anti-fighter , any ship equiped with gun turrets .
Fed planetary Bombardment I was thinking about useing a Photon carrier?? for this. Maybe Miranda in scope.
Long Range Bombardment A cad of new design of course  :coolsmiley:
Frig Colony ship i was thinking about useing an Oberth class with a Colony pod in place of the science pod.  Same with the Trade ship but with another pod.

Cruisers
Scout JJ themed what not.
Command  Tmp era conie or simmler
Combat  Future theme ship slot taken
Carrier   Tmp Fredrickstand carrier
Repair Akula or other simmler theme ship for deployment of autobot repair pods.

Capships

Siege or planetary Bombardment Cap ship    This model is my design a Tmp Galaxy of a sorts. Think LS Tos Galaxy but Tmp themed. 36 photon tubes  :P
Carrier  Got to be something simmler to stock sfc fed heavy carrier .
D Support  Is another JJ theme design.
Battleship 3 or 4 warped why was that made ship.
Ship Disruption?? not sure on this one.

When I envisioned my mod I just re-assigned all the ships with their own roles. The Connie and contemporaries would be the first cruisers, while the Akula DD would have been the equivalent Frigate. Probably would have bashed together new Romulan ships, but the Klinks would use familiar profiles from KA/SFC/FASA. Though... my intention was to make a TMP-only mod since it's very rare that ANY Star Trek Mod restricts itself to TMP/TOS. Every mod in existence for Star Trek pretty much includes TNG and onward, which personally I find distasteful.

In any case, in my example ships like the Exclsior DN, Federation DN, Yamato BB, and Midway CV (the CV from SFC2) would have been the 'Capital' ships with special abilities. Ships like the Enterprise would have been regular cruisers without special abilities. All the Romulan ships could cloak, but for example they couldn't go to warp with it engaged (prolly an anti-matter cost). Not being a coder I don't know the restrictions to all of this, but it's how I planned the mod. Naturally per the TOS/SFC assumption the Klinks couldn't cloak (with some exceptions) but would be generally more badass at space combat while the feds were better at support and colonization. Roms would cloak, and have specialized support ships, both classes being fragile.

On the matter of Sins, you are aware that you could set all the times to slow so that you can play a longer-paced game? On the opposite side, Diplomacy has given yet another speed rating to make it more like a typical RTS.

I don't understand why so much like the SINS game, it has good graphics but when do you have time to zoom in so close to see all that beatyfull graphics with that big systems and stuff and the high difficulty of this game and it even has not a real story and singleplayer campain.
Sins sucks for me, only good graphics and nothing more, like the most games these days.

For me its more fun than any game i have modeld so far. In sfc i expect an outcome and - is typical,  in sins if i can make the model work in game at all it rules in my eyes. Screw the public outcome  ;D
