SFC is still king.
« on: January 20, 2010, 02:37:58 am »
For 8 years I have waited for the next great ST computer game.

And now that STO  is turning out to be a great big steaming pile of epic / Fail  I am convinced that SFC is still a vastly superior game in every single respect.  even though its 8 years old.

I am currently in the STO open beta, and so far its absolutely pathetic. And I'm not talking about bugs.  bugs can be fixed.  Just the whole layout and style is horrible.  It really is just champions online / CoH / CoV with a star trek skin.

I Keep thinking and wishing that it had been taldren that developed STO with the star ship game play based on the SFC engine.

And I also keep hoping that SFC 4 comes to be.

Until then, STO has nothing on SFC.

I would have to agree, nothing beats SFC so far.  Couple of decades of tweaking the SFB ruleset and then basing a game off that didn't hurt.

I was laughing at some of the idiots on another board, they were all OMG you have to manage several systems!!!  Gee, SFC has had that forever, and to a far greater extent.

Bingo on the assessment of STO, it's everymmo with a new skin, just like every other release.  With the exception of EVE, Blizzards success guarantees most major MMOs with be formulaic pap with a few new shiny bells and whistles.  I've played em all, 6 years in SWG, 5 in EQ2, wow, vanguard, AoC, GW, all the same crap now.

Its time for a better game.  SFC was and is the best starship combat system ever done.  (not counting SFC 3, it got dumbed and shinied too)

Plus, STO is romping over canon enthusiastically, one Kling bird is the Ent Series Raptor.. for gawds sake.  Klings are a minor pvp only race anyhow, but crap, a raptor and a BOP is the best they can come up with?

I once proposed that idea of mating an SFC Dyna with a SFC command and conquer style game for planet surface warfare and a FPS using trek roleplay ruleset for boarding enemy ships.....

Everyone laughed...

You forgot Guild Wars which actually takes skill to play and know how as to changes every couple of months.I do agree with on SFC although I wouldn't mind seeing a few changes shiplist/fighterlist.

Heh, I am looking forward to GW2, I hope they keep the skillset rule.  a jillion skills...8 slots.  Yeah, it is a nice game, just not quite up to the fluff in others, housing, mounts, etc.

This is by far the most off beat review post evah.

*shakes head*

I swear, seriously, most SFC'ers have -never- played another MMO.

Or if you did, your a little girl that cries about EVERTYHING FFS.

Regards,

What's your opinion on STO?   My feelings on SFC are well known to all who can read, I'm currently hooked on D&D Online so I'm not gonna check out STO for a while.

Regards,

Without going into too much detail, I've spent money on several MMO's, and didn't enjoy any of them.  I rarely waste my breath commenting on them.  STO doesn't interist me, so there's no point wasting $60.00 just to download the client.  At least, with Planeshift, I was able to create an interesting character.  Now, all I need is the time and energy to play.
