Checking my lycos mail account today I found this notice:
Notice:
Due to the recent security / phishing attacks on internet mail, some customer accounts have been locked to prevent further abuse. Contact support@support.lycos.com if you are unable to login. We want to remind our customers not to give out personal information unless confident that the requester is legitimate.
I was able to login but unable to send mail. (a condition not mentioned in the notice). Every time I try to send a mail from my Lycos account it gives the following error: "Not allow this request." (nice engrish there guys....)
Oh wait, that's noscript flagging a cross site scripting exploit that exists in the Lycos webmail interface and blocking the script, the result being the Lycos webmail interface generates this error when you try to send a mail and it's cross-site scripting is blocked.
Spam is a big problem for Lycos; more so than others. I think it has something to do with how they lock accounts without activity then fill the inbox with spam, in an attempt to get you to subscribe to avoid such inconveniences. I suspect this is their own bed they have made, and now they have to lie in it.
