really? How about that dropbox thing I used? 2 gb of space, I dunno what bandwidth limits you have and I could always us BCfiles, so far as I know there've been no issues other than extra long pending file times during the recent christmas releases.

I think it's an issue with Filefront itself.  I've tried uploading pics to a couple sites for PORD, and I keep getting errors of being unable to upload to the database, and when trying to access files for download, they'll sometimes go to filefront's main page repeatedly, and then when you try it again another day, it takes you to the download page for that file, but it happens randomly.  One of the last files uploaded I think had some issues getting uploaded.

I know they're trying to track down the redirect crap atm, probably by the time FoaS does his first vid that will be fixed (hopefully) though something else will probably be broken lol.

After the first session I will have to see how big the file is. After that, I'll know what to do.

Fair enough and thanks for the effort that you are putting into this

The Speed modelling is only modelling for now (textures take longer than what a speed contest would be viable, in my experience). The symposium will cover everything I can get out, from modelling, unwrapping, and texturing ships. I don't have a year-long syllabus planned out, but I don't think it would be very hard to suppose that we might go past vessels into Interiors, Character modelling, rigging, etc.

Okay, it does look like that the website does keep an accessible archive of recordings. I don't know if only I can access it (as the host) or if its freely available. Furthermore, I don't know if its only up for a limited time, or if there is a size limit. However, it IS downloadable, and thus can be uploaded somewhere else. Again, problem will likely be hosting since I can imagine that a 2 or 3 hour-long FLV file is going to be huge. As stated, once the first meeting happens, I'll know what to do (drop box is sounding good :-))

A friend of mine found a problem with DimDim - only 4 people can use microphones. I will go ahead and use DimDim tomorrow, because its too late to change the plan, but next seminar I will be using TightVNC. Recordings can still happen using TightVNC and I will speak to Frey about adding a channel on the teamspeak server here on dyna. Baking the recording will take some time, but its on a second computer, so it won't impair anything. Distribution remains a problem, but I'm working on that.
The thing that would change from using DimDim is that anyone who wants to view it will have to download TightVNC and teamspeak, but quality will be much higher than DimDim. I'm hoping that won't be too much an inconvenience to you folks.

also take a look at ustreeam.tv

here is the stream my son watches.

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/lartist-at-work

It allows multiple video inputs, and possible oculd capture the teamspeak also.  Not sure.

Another option to look at, with no downloads for people to watch.

I did try ustream, quality is atrocious :/ the TightVNC seems the most viable, honestly. I just ran it across my LAN and it works perfectly Video was transmitted, audio was not (which is good, because then I can have my other machine listen in on teamspeak and record audio from that). I need to test recording, but I do not think that will be disappointing at all :).

TightVNC will be good, too, because there is a viewer that people can download and just plug in my IP address and view it, instead of installing the whole client. They will still need to download Teamspeak, however.

Okay, poll time. Session starts in 3.5 hours. Should we use TightVNC method, or just stick with DimDim until next week?

okay see what you mean, it is good for the drawing part, but reading the screen is tough.  As for what service for today, well, I will be asleep so any will be good.  My son might sit in to check it out tho.

Okay, Recording with VNC works (just made a demo video of me reading marstone's last reply >.<).
I think i need to put my machine out on the DMZ, but that should be fine. Push comes to shove I go out to the internet and come back with the desktop to record the laptop's feed. >.<

So, who plans on attending tonight?

Okay, I left the meeting open for 45 minutes and no one showed. I will try again next sunday, between then and now I will post instructions on how to connect to the new host (since DimDim isn't what what I am looking for, VNC will be used instead).

Furthermore, Post on this thread if you plan on attending next week's symposium.

This weekend wasn't good for me cause I had to help in some home repairs.  Next weekend should be alright.  Is there gonna be a video component?  Just curious,
The pen is truly mightier than the sword.  And considerably easier to write with.

If your still thinking about places top host the vids. Why not split the vid into however 10 minute sections and just upload to youtube. From there you can just use the "Embedded Player" codes that they provide to have them viewable wherever you please. Failing that Filefont could hold the files... As there's like 3 tutorials on there. The vids would be a welcome addition to any site..... Have you spoke to Frey about Dyna hosting the vids?

After the first session I will have to see how big the file is. After that, I'll know what to do.

New Instructions

Programs Needed
- Teamspeak 2 (installation needed) found Here
- TightVNC Viewer (standalone exe; found Here

Here's how you connect.
-----------------
Teamspeak
-----------------
Once you have teamspeak installed, you will need to open it up and connect to dyna's TS server.
Server Address = 67.78.36.181:8767
Sign is as an anonymous user but use your Dyna or BCC login as your nickname.
Server Password = sfcrulz

You will see "FoaS_XC" (thats me) in a channel. double click on that channel to join it.

-----------------
tightVNC
-----------------
In tightVNC viewer all you need to do is enter in my IP address, which I will give on teamspeak (not putting it here on a public forum >.<)
Make sure you hit the low-bandwidth connection.
It will ask you for a password that once again, I'll give out once you're on teamspeak.

Getting onto teamspeak is paramount, because then if you have any issues with tightVNC, ill be there to walk you through it.

Time of Symposium = 6pm EST
That is 4 hours from the time I have posted this message.

Well, was interesting for what I was able to see and hear, my connection was too flaky.  I shall wait and see the video of it so I can skip all the lag.  ;)
